A Fly In The Ointment

This is the doughnut case in our supermarket, don't they have some cute doughnuts? It is self serve, you grab a box and put in as many as you want. As you can see, they are behind glass doors which you have to open. Well, the other day, I went to get a few, but saw that a fly had gotten inside the case, and was landing on all the donuts! I went home without any, because we all know how dirty flies are. Then today, I visited the case again to grab just one doughnut. Yikes, a fly again!! But I must confess that I had been on the go all day, and was so hungry that I took one and ate it anyway! I told myself that people eat food at picnics that flies have been all over. Now, what would YOU have done? I'm thinking this might turn out 50/50.

Jesus called the crowd to him and said "Listen and understand. What goes into a man's mouth does not make him unclean, but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him unclean."
Matthew 15:10,11

"The tongue is also a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person..."
James 3:6

I was drinking my coffee yesterday and there was a fly in it! Must have been in the cup! Grose. WE always leave our doors open so we now know better.

Cute, Ginny.... I was surprised to see you commenting today and then posting. Thought Monday was your day off.

Those donuts are cute ---and decorated so nice. But--I don't eat them anymore... Flies don't bother me though since they are always around, everywhere we go it seems....

Hope you had a nice day.
Hugs,
Betsy

Hi Ginny, I too am surprised to see your post, maybe it was automated to post today. I don't have a clue how that works but know it does. Whatever....happy to see you. The header is awesome! Stunning macro shot!
As for flies, bugs, anything flying around my food, I toss. I have those little mesh tents for picnics. They work really well until someone wants to eat and picks them up to get to the food and then "onslaught of flies". Well not really, but always seems to be one just waiting for the tent to be lifted! Have a question for you? What do you do if you are in a bake shop and ask for a single cookie and then hand you one with a plastic glove? Not knowing where there hands have been etc. I think most of us take the cookie without thinking about it. To be honest, I have, but since Terry had his surgery and I was extra vigiliant on germs, I watched a clerk without plastic gloves hand a mother a cookie for her young child. The child received the cookie. That bothered me. For myself, as an adult, maybe ok because lets face it there are germs all over, but for my child or grandchild, don't think I would take the cookie. You, like always, Ginny have open a vast complex area that would make great posts. Hope you had a lovely day and thank you so much for the precious comments on my post about our Sat tea party. Blessings

Hum, I am not big on sweets but that fly must have been in hog heaven. You are correct, we do go to picnics and flys are buzzing all around the food. Me, I would have gone to the bread section, now that floats my boat and gotten a big fat warm yeast roll.

I love your header, that is a great macro of the sunflower.

Those cup cakes looks scrumptious!
Would I have minded the fly? It depends, if I was hungry like you were one fly would probably not have bothered me.

When we were in Mexico for the races we would very often shop in the grocery stores there. All of the bakery items are out in the open, no cases, and everything is self serve. The weather was hot so yes, there were flies. It bothered me the first year but then I got over it.

I saw this segment on some documantary on Bot flies and ever since I get the hee bee gee bees whenever I see a fly. In fact if a fly manages to get in the house I won't rest until its out or I send it to the big sticky fly trap in the sky!:O)
Blessings, Joanne

I don't think the fly would've bothered me so much. Although I would've just gone for a plain chocolate iced ;-)

i am with the ones who said the fly would not stop me if i wanted one, in those cases it is the hands that reach in and get all over them that make me cringe. it is impossible to reach in with the little paper and not touch something with hand or even arm if you reach to the back. love your header and am wondering why you are here on Monday... you through us all for a loop

Oh my goodness....first thing I thought of viewing these was how my daughter would LOVE to receive a shipment of those with pigs...she collects pigs [ceramic and china type that is] And with no flies. LOL

Those cupcakes are so cute-- I mean donuts! I wouldn't drink something that a fly was swimming in, but, I would eat a cupcake. (I try not to think about how many germs are in the world, otherwise, I might get too paranoid.) I haven't died yet, and I know I've eaten a lot of food that flies have been on. Yum! lol

Morning Ginny...

I, myself, am too crazy about sweets not to have gone ahead and eaten one...Sweets....they are my downfall...I suppose that I would have just considered it a fact that the fly would have to be sweet itself after nibbling on all those cute, sweet foods...I would have gone for it...

A fly in the ointment or a fly on my food - don't like either. People who don't wash their hands may very well have more germs on them than a fly though! We haven't really got a clue as to what insect remains, larvae, and other bacteria actually thrive in the food we think is perfectly fine and eat it on a daily basis, lol!

I have a favorite doughnut place I go once in awhile. They do not have anything like this. These are too cute to eat.

Those are cute donuts, and very tempting, but I would probably pass if there was a fly in the case.

Oh My! Flies are everywhere this time of year. I would have quoted your scripture on the first visit and bought a dozen! Especially after some of the places I've eaten - a little fly doesn't challeng me much. ☻

Ugh! Flies around food. No, I wouldn't have eaten one. Glad you had no ill effects.

Hi Ginny, Shake rattle and roll for you this afternoon, huh? Did not feel it here on the Cumberland Plateau in TN as we are up on solid bedrock. Of course, being raised in Los Angeles, I am used to earthquakes. I have been through two at 7.0 so I am a veteran. Highly unusual for you in the East. Take care and stay safe!

I've never seen doughnuts like that before. At first I thought they were cupcakes...I'm not much on self-serve grocery shopping, but I guess if I really, really wanted one, I would have taken it even though the fly was in there...God only knows what all we eat that is unappetizing only it's not on the label, right? ... and you don't even want to know what goes on behind closed doors in a restaurant kitchen (I had a friend who was a Chef) and if you think about it too much, you'll never want to go out to eat again! So, let's just not think about it and enjoy ourselves :-)

I woke up and heard about your earth quake. The impact must be great as it is 1 km. it is so shallow.

I am going to Christchurch on Thursday for the weekend.

I'd probably be so busy looking at all those cute donuts that I wouldn't notice.

I would have shooed the fly away and bought and enjoyed my sweets.

Well, those verses ought to do the trick (lol)..I might of risked it, and must have by now without every realizing it! They look very sweet you know (smile)-

I would have gotten one anyway...

I'm not one to let a little fly stop me from having a little treat. Now if it's covered with flies I think I would pass. Like you said, we've dealt with them at picnics for years.

I can't have donuts anymore but they sure look good.

Reena said...

The donuts are so cute! But I hate flies! So gross ... but I know I have eaten many many things in my lifetime that flies have been upon.

Ginny your header photo of the sunflowers is stunning!

I do not like the thought of flies on my food...but if I was really hungry I might have overlooked it. The donuts are cute!

Hi Ginny, I do get bothered by flies but with such cute donuts I'd have taken a chance!!

Thanks for stopping by today. I've often thought about your wonderful posts...I'll surely be checking them out...

I would pretend he didn't land on the donut I picked and I would eat it. Hubby would too - I just asked.
