The Judas Tree

Here are the red bud trees from this spring. We rarely see them in yards, they grow along the highway.Maybe because they are called Judas trees. Legend goes that this is the tree that Judas hung himself from. The trees remain weak and sparse so no one will ever again hang themselves from it again.

“Judas, the one who betrayed him, realized that Jesus was doomed. Overcome with remorse, he gave back the thirty silver coins to the high priests, saying, "I've sinned. I've betrayed an innocent man."
They said, "What do we care? That's your problem!"
Judas threw the silver coins into the Temple and left. Then he went out and hung himself.”
Matthew 27

Wow what a beautiful color! Especially the header photo is amazing! I agree, maybe they are not grown in yards so much because of the name and story behind it. But it sure is pleasant to drive highway seeing these beautiful trees!

I have never heard that story before about the Red Bud being called Judas Tree. Goes a long with the Dogwood Tree story.
They grow in the woods and yards here in the mid-south.

Wish I had one of those trees. Simply breathtaking. I am sorry, not sure what the name of the flowers in my PS post. I think they are in the daisy family tho.

And, Ginny, you're 1/2 right on the bird that is nearly extinct...saying it is a sandpiper...in my post I posted it's called a spoonbill sandpiper.

Such splendor in these beautiful buds.
Our red-bud trees have already leafed out and the deep red leaves are just as pretty as what the buds were....
Happy Spring...

Hi Ginny, We have a lot fewer Redbuds here in Florida. I think it is among the prettiest of the Spring bloomers. Have a fantastic coming week. I hope your health is improving. I've been praying for you.

These are definitely beautiful trees, regardless of the name. We're fortunate to have two in our yard.

Wow, those are gorgeous! I had forgotten they were called the Judas tree. A couple of our neighbors have them in their yards and they add color to the whole neighborhood.

Sunday Sunset

I snapped these from the Target parking lot. The sun had just gone down, but the trees were hiding the very bottom part of the sunset. Life...
