Groundhog Day 2015

Did you know that today was Groundhog Day? And the groundhog saw his shadow. That means six more weeks of winter! The superstition ceremony started in 1889, and the groundhog has only called for an early spring seventeen times since then! Here are some of the groundhogs in our neighborhood.

Groundhogs whistle! See how this one's mouth is open? He was whistling!

A couple years ago, Ella was visiting on Groundhog Day. So we learned about groundhogs and made some from card stock and popsicle sticks!

“Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you.”
Maori Proverb

"Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield it's valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near."
James 5:7

Love that groundhog photo, Ginny! I love these animals, they are cute. Here in Canada they pick up the groundhog and put a hat on him. LOL!

Love the crafting projects!! What a cool share.

As for the Groundhog Day...I never paid much attention to it. Especially if it sees it's shadow or not since the outcome is always the same..."6 more weeks of winter" or "6 more weeks 'til Spring"

Fantastic captures of your neighborhood 'hogs too Ginny.

I had no idea early spring was predicted a mere 17 times!

Cute groundhog crafts :-)

I love your ground hogs - all of them!! So you know what our ground hog did not see his shadow - so spring must be coming - right?

Our local (Atlanta) groundhog predicted early spring and I hope he is right :-)
Those are great captures of groundhog, especially the whistling. Didn't know they whistle!
The groundhogs on popsicle sticks are very cute!

Sweet photos of Ella, very creative. Enjoyed the photos of your groundhog also. Didn't know about the whistling.

That old tale has been around along time. In my opinion, the ground hog has nothing to do with the weather.

I used to hear them called whistlepigs!

Cute photos of groundhogs. The tale is just interesting. I wonder where it originated from really.

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for groundhogs, even though my papaw hated them lol. He said they always ate his garden.

Well---I heard that he saw his shadow --so we'll have 6 more weeks of winter!!!! (Didn't surprised me at all.)

Guess you don't see Ella nearly as much these days as you used to.. She's all grown up now, isn't she? What grade is she in?

Hugs,
Betsy

These groundhogs are so cute. They really made me smile. Thanks for visiting my blog today. I wouldn't consider myself a 'world traveler'. I like being at home too much. But I do travel quite a bit compared to many other people ;-) Have a lovely Wednesday.

Dear Ginny, I feel bad for these poor little groundhogs. There is so much pressure on them to predict the weather!!!
Not even the weather on t.v. gets it correct!
Beautiful proverb; thank you for all the encouraging words you always post. xoxo Catherine
