This is the one we bought.
Wildflowers grew around it.
Black Eyed Susans popped up beside it.
Ella played with the water in it.
The wasps and bees came to it.
And the neighborhood cats drank from it.
Funny thing is, almost NO birds came to it!
One day we looked out, and the top had fallen off and cracked evenly in half into two pieces. No more cats, wasps, children, or flowers. It's kind of quiet in the yard now.

I think the birds prefer the running water such as in fountains, as I see them all the time in the public ones. Beautiful photos and post, Ginny.
It's a very pretty bird bath, sad that it broke. Our is made from concrete and little pebbles and it falls over every spring. Once it stands back up and is filled the birds love it. They don't even seem to mind if the water isn't always perfectly clean :)
Well Ginny, I think you will have to buy another bird bath for whoever turns up to use it!
Oh man....that would've broken my heart in two!!!
Was the garden center Milmont? I love going there.
I love this post. We had a bird bath. Oliver used it as his personal water bowl when he went outside. I never saw a bird in it.
Best,
Bonnie
it really is beautiful and a work of art, not just a bird bath. maybe it was to pretty? i love the base of it and the colors to . can you glue it back together? bob had to put the top and bottom back on ours. we get no birds but that is because of Jake the hunter
Birds love our birdbath but it's close to trees and shrubs so birds can scoot to hide if they sense danger.
A sweet story....with such joy and fulfillment for everyone, I do believe another bird bath needs to be purchased.
I have a couple of them and I so enjoy watching the birds bathing and the squirrels sneaking a drink or two.
Blessings.

Oh, but I love it....it is/was so pretty.
The raccoon's like to dump our over.
What a pretty bird bath! Too bad it got broken. But glad it had many visitors coming to use it. Well, except for birds :-)
That was a pretty bird bath. Perhaps now you need to look for another one.If you can keep the cats away, the birds will likely come as well.
I'm sorry to read that your pretty bird bath got broken. I wonder if it could be glued back together? Your photos are so pretty and I love that wonderful closeup of the wasp. Have a nice day!
That bird bath sure brought a lot of pleasure while you had it Ginny. It was such a pretty bird bath. I enjoyed your photos very much. I would love to meet up with you one of these days Ginny. Maybe when the warmer weather is here we can meet up for a picnic somewhere near Big Meadows, or some other get-together in a local restaurant. That would be lovely :)
I never thought about getting a bird bath - they are lovely and I like your story.
So sorry about the broken bird bath. Will you be getting a new one for your garden? I enjoyed watching birds taking bath.
That birth bath looks pretty. Too bad it broke.
Bird baths are not yet a thing here in my side of the world. Because the birds can just have a bath almost everywhere :-)
I like birdbaths and have them. I found they crack after time regardless of how good they are, The one picked was very pretty.
Sorry it broke. But the joy it brings continues as you share photos and memories.
The circle of life.
Hi Ginny, I think you should get some of that Silicone spray repair goop that is advertised on TV and repair the bird bath. The commercial shows a row boat with the special spray and it is water-tight. Just a thought. You would then give flowers, kitty, kids, bees, and yes, birds a second chance. Have an excellent Friday tomorrow!
It is one of the prettiest I have seen. Too bad.
SML is only twenty minutes from us. Sometimes I go there instead of Roanoke to grocery shop. I really like their Kroger. And they have a great Goodwill.
Beautiful colors and design. So sorry it broke, bet the kitty and bees were too.
