One Old Coot Meets Another

As a birdwatcher, I have wanted to see a coot for a very long time. And this has been the week!! Here he is on a local pond diving and eating green plants!

You can see how windy it was by how his feathers are blowing.

A coot is NOT a duck, and does not have duck feet. Here is a picture I found on the web of his feet! And he can really speed  around fast!

“In old age, your body no longer serves you so well.
Muscles slacken, grip weakens, joints stiffen…
Hikes to the mountains are a thing of the past.
Even a stroll down the road has its terrors.
Your hair turns apple-blossom white…”

Ecclesiastes 12

I have never seen a Coot either and beyond hearing the name knew nothing about them. Looking at it I would say it's a type of duck so now I know that it isn't. Those feet are pretty fascinating. I'm thinking those claws could hurt

I don't think I've seen coot. Beautiful black feathers and his red eyes are striking! And his feet! No doubt he can swim really fast!

I have never noticed the feet of a coot before! How extraordinary!
There are coots about on the lakes here but I've only seen them in the water at a distance.

Love those feet, lol
And Ecclesiastes has got it about right, getting old is no fun except maybe for the apple-blossom hair, that's not too bad.

This is the first time I see a coot and it has very unusual feet. The verse is so true about old age!
