At The River's Edge

The South River is just behind our backyard. It is also all around us. But we are up rather high, so are not too worried about flooding. Today during a break from the rain, we went to the river's edge.

This is what we found.

The groundhogs were out, eating to prepare for hibernation. Notice his shiny black hands, like he is wearing leather gloves. I do hope his burrow doesn't get flooded.

I am the daughter of Earth and Water,
And the nursling of the Sky;
I pass through the pores of the ocean and shores;
I change, but I cannot die....

It is a cute groundhog and it does look like it is wearing leather gloves. I do hope his burrow is high enough not to get flooded. Have a great new week!

He's a cute one. Love those little black hands.

Is something on his hands or are they that way naturally?

I totally missed the gloves and had to go back to find them. I was staring at his adorable face and hoping he is safe from swift waters, also praying you will be safe from swift waters also. that monster storm is still devastating the Carolinas..

Great photos of the groundhog Ginny! He is adorable.

I knew there were other "Durty Nelly's" when I did a little research for my post today. They don't seem to be a franchise because I couldn't find a website with a complete list. I think the others, which are located all over the world, must be copycats of the original 400 year old one I visited in Ireland!

Oh my goodness I love those photos - what great catches you get. Was that rain from Florence? He was so cute. Wish I had to eat for winter! lol

So glad you are on higher ground Ginny. The river looks very high. Your groundhog is a cute little guy. Never noticed the hands until you pointed them out. Hopefully his burrow will have stayed dry.

Sunday Sunset

 I snapped these from the Target parking lot. The sun had just gone down, but the trees were hiding the very bottom part of the sunset. Life...
