I have been wanting to experiment with making a fairy garden, but I turned it into a Gnome garden. I don't really like it, though. Maybe I put too many things in it? I can't put my finger on what is wrong with it.

I was about to lay out some advice and then I realize it's not about what would please me it's what about pleases you and until you are pleased with it and that has to come from you. I know that when I do something and it doesn't please me and others like it it doesn't matter because I don't. If you don't like it keep fiddling there I did come up with some advice haha

I do really like your Gnome garden. Try a different shape tray, maybe that will satisfy your creative juices more. I don't see anything wrong with what you have..but you are the artist and need to be happy with your "work".

I think it so cute but agree with you, it might be a little crowded. Put in a bigger tray might be just the thing.
