This is the first time there is a Barbie with type 1 diabetes. She comes with a pink insulin pump, a heart-shaped glucose monitor and a purse full of snacks so she can control her blood sugar. Her blue outfit is intentional, too: Blue circles are the symbols for diabetes awareness.
There is also blind Barbie, wheelchair Barbie, and hearing aid Barbie. I think this is such a great idea! Now if only there was a senior Barbie with knee and back arthritis and a walker!
Sugar may rise, and
needles may sting,
But courage takes
flight on determined wing.
Each choice, each
step, a victory true—
Diabetes fights, but
so do you.

Ginny, I think this is fabulous ๐ ๐ I am sure they will come up with more!!!
I also love ❤️ the quote. Beautiful.
Good for them!
Grandma and Grandpa Barbie dolls with various health problems might open up a whole new market... ;-)
This shows how time has really changed
I haven't seen this one. Then again I haven't shopped for Barbie Dolls in a long time. I would probably get sticker shock if I did.
I think this is great! Our daughter is Type 1, so I appreciate the awareness and the benefit to young girls who deal with this.
Ginny, I'm with you 100%...a senior Barbie with knee and back arthritis and a walker. I think you're on to something! I love this Barbie tho, so that Type I kids can relate to Barbie too. Love, Andrea xoxo
What a great poem to go with this Barbie. I like the fact that they recognize many illnesses and disabilities. This is a new one to me. I agree with you, we need that senior Barbie with knee and back arthritis and a walker!
Good idea for those children who have type 1 diabetes. As for the senior Barbie’s - us seniors would be the only ones wanting to buy them. I can’t see little girls wanting a senior Barbie. ๐
For goodness sakes - they do have a Senior Barbie. https://thiis.co.uk/mattel-embrace-ageing-and-inclusivity-by-showing-barbie-for-the-83-year-old-doll-she-really-is/
