Meet the Ocellated turkey. I had never heard of this until recently! They are found in the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico, and in parts of Belize and Guatemala.
I would call him a Peacock Turkey. He is much smaller than the American wild turkey. But they are related.
They have huge spurs on their legs, which can be as long as 2 1/2 inches! I guess no one would be brave enough to trey and have them for Thanksgiving dinner!
“Its plumage is a
poem of emeralds and sapphires, written by the forest itself.”

What a magnificent, beautiful bird.
That is one pretty turkey. It does remind me more of a peacock though. Those spurs on it's legs look lethal
our turkeys have spurs to, but only the males, I was attacked and spurred by one at age 8 and it ripped my new easter dress to shreds.. I have never seen a more beautiful turkey. Wow! this is amazing, like a rainbow. I did not know turkey's come in HD colors
I've never heard of this turkey before. What a beautiful bird!
What a gorgeous and showy bird, Ginny! I'd never heard about that breed of turkey until now. Blessings!
I wonder how it fits in its environment? Neat pictures!
Beautiful turkey. Benjamin Franklin wanted the national bird to be a turkey - perhaps if ours looked like this gorgeous bird, the turkey would have beat out the American bald eagle!
Can't recall ever having seen or heard of that bird before!
What stunning colors. He is decked out from top to pin feathers with jewel-like adornments.
Thanks for sharing.

I didn't know they existed. They are absolutely gorgeous - stunning! They do look jeweled and that hook on their leg!
I sure would not want to come close to those big, sharp claws. Such a gorgeous peacock/turkey. I've not ever seen one before.
Wow, never heard of then before. They are pretty and ugly at the same time! :)
My goodness, thanks for sharing. I have never heard of an Ocellated turkey and they are extraordinary looking birds.
So pretty! Though those things on his eyes are weird looking. Overall though, so pretty.
Wow, she looks like a royal turkey adorned with beads and bold colors. It's almost like she's wearing jewelry haha. So unusual. Thanks for sharing this, Ginny. I like the quote. Emerald is my birthstone. : )
