Going, Going, Gone

On our way home May 17th.

“He doesn't treat us as our sins deserve, nor pay us back in full for our wrongs. As high as heaven is over the earth, so strong is his love to those who fear him. And as far as sunrise is from sunset, he has separated us from our sins. As parents feel for their children, God feels for those who fear him.”
Psalm 103

Cents And Sensibility

"Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.
Carl Sandburg

Here is the answer to my contraption guessing game. This was a penny smashing machine. They seem to be everywhere and are very popular. And for the life of me I can't figure out what is so special about a smashed flat penny! Here is a picture of three that I have. My friend went to The Titanic replica and bought me this Titanic smashed penny and a pen. Did you know it costs one and a half cents to make a penny? More than it is worth! Many people want to get rid of pennies, but some say that it would drive prices up by rounding products up to the next highest price. 76% of people have said they still bend over to pick up a penny. I am not one of them, valuing my back more than one cent. Do you think we should get rid of pennies, and do you pick them up? Here is a special Angel Penny I found, supposedly angels throw them down when we are feeling sad, that would be worth picking up.

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Contraption

What is this strange contraption
All full of gears and wheels
With pretty brightly colored paint
Atop some cold hard steel

So take a guess if you dare
Tell me what you think is there
Machine or gizmo, which is it most
I'll tell you on my very next post.

A Little Detective Work

Scene: Our local Chick-Fil-A
Day: Yesterday
Time: 8:15 P.M.
Suspects: The local police

Official Report: By now you know I love Chick-Fil-A and have done several posts on it. So yesterday, after having a hard and long day and not feeling well, we headed to Chick-Fil-A for a late dinner. YIKES, what was this?? Police cars in front of the place, with the lights flashing and crime tape all around!! Phil says "They've been robbed!". But I am thinking that someone has choked or had a heart attack. What to do, what to do? Peering inside, the customers were eating their food and seemed unconcerned!! We had been going to use the drive-through, but now this demanded a walk inside to see what was up! Inside were more policemen and a spinning wheel. Yes, the police were there to raise money for their department!!! You paid some money, spun the wheel, and got a chance for free food. I could tell them one way to get money. They had to leave the car engine running all evening so the red and blue lights could stay on and spin around! We did not play the game. They had given us a scare and I am still wondering if it was right for them to raise money in this way, what do you think????

“The police aren't there just to be admired in their uniforms. God also has an interest in keeping order, and he uses them to do it. That's why you must live responsibly—not just to avoid punishment but also because it's the right way to live.”
Romans 13

All Dressed Up And Nowhere To Go

"All the trees of the field will recognize that I, God, made the great tree small and the small tree great, made the green tree turn dry and the dry tree sprout green branches. I, God, said it—and I did it.'"
Ezekiel 17

I bet you think you're seeing things, but no need to look again, you've got it right. A couple weeks ago, we went to a large park with a famous mansion and acres of formal gardens. They are famous for the variety and size of their trees. And I guess they wanted to dress them up just a bit for the visitors. Actually, I think this is probably the silliest thing I have ever seen! God dressed his trees perfectly in leaves and bark, for all kinds of weather. and I somehow don't see how these little cotton frocks can improve upon that. In leaving, I saw the sign at the bottom. Aha, it was the college students who did this! I'm not even sure what a draping class is, do they learn to drape clothes, or to make drapes? I'm very confused. But here's one thing I know...how the children of God are dressed.

“I will sing for joy in God, explode in praise from deep in my soul! He dressed me up in a suit of salvation, he outfitted me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom who puts on a tuxedo and a bride a jeweled tiara.”
Isaiah 61

A New Mother

A mother is a person who, seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.  ~Tenneva Jordan

Mothers hold their children's hands for a short while, but their hearts forever.  ~Author Unknown

Swan watch is over! Mommy swan has had her babies and they were happily paddling around after her when I went to check today!! Matter of fact, it looks like she had them at least a week ago, I'm glad I got there in time to see them while they are still this cute. Their necks have already started to lengthen, just like mom's. And very soon, they will look just like her. The park authorities took last years babies away when they were grown, I wonder if the mom still remembers them?

"Can a mother forget the infant at her breast, walk away from the baby she bore? But even if mothers forget, I'd never forget you—never. Look, I've written your names on the backs of my hands.”
Isaiah 49

Happy Mother's Day to everyone! I am taking off the computer on Monday, so will see you on Tuesday!

Weaving

What have we here? Well, yesterday I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with Anne Marie. And I had recently found this loom kit like I had when I was a little girl. This was all the big thing back then, and moms never ran out of the many potholders we all made. I hadn't seen one of these in years and years and was surprised that you could still buy them. Do you remember them, and did you have one?? Anne had never seen such a thing before and it took quite a bit of time and patience, but she made her first one and was so proud of it! I'm glad I was the one to teach her.

THE WEAVER
My life is but a weaving between my Lord and me,
I cannot choose the colors He works steadily.
Oft times He weaves sorrow, and I in foolish pride
forget He sees the upper but I the under side.
Not till the loom is silent and the shuttles cease to fly,
shall God unroll the canvas and explain the reason why.
The dark threads are as needed in the Weaver's skillful hand,
as threads of gold and silver in the pattern life has planned.
Benjamin Malachi Franklin (1882-1965)

The Stand

The first pumpkin stand of the season is open! This one is my favorite because of the wall of pumpkins. It's in a really pretty locatio...
