What Next?
Our granddaughter has been staying with us while her mom is in the hospital. And she is always asking “What next”? When you tell her, she asks what we’re doing after that, and after that, and so on. I imagine it’s comforting for her to know what’s coming up. It gives a child security. But not us! I just can’t imagine why people try to discern the future with palm readers, horoscopes, etc. I can barely get through life one day at a time, and I imagine If I knew the future, it would just be too overwhelming. God gave us something wonderful when he kept us from knowing the future, and yet there are people who want to ruin that. I say “Enough is enough”. Others who want to know more say “Enough is never enough”. Abe Lincoln said “The best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time.” And Albert Einstein said “I never think of the future. It comes soon enough.” Apparently there were horoscopes even in Bible times. And here’s what God has to say about them: “These stargazers who make predictions month by month….the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves. Each of them goes on in his error.” Isaiah 47:13. In my opinion, horoscopes are either phony or have some truth in them. If they are phony, they are of no use. And if they are correct, they’re certainly not from God, so that means it is an evil power. God is ALWAYS right, and he knows that it is not a blessing to know the future. In fact, it could very well incapacitate most of us. Matthew 6 :34 says “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of it’s own.”
