Dominoes And Walls

Did you ever play with dominoes? When our son was little, we played with so many that it took the whole living room floor to spread them out. And now we play with them with our granddaughter. They are very versatile. You can use them as blocks, and also make stacking towers. Kids love them. But here's a new use. Monday was the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and they lined up over 1,000 styrofoam dominoes all along the route of the wall. They were eight feet tall and had been decorated by school children.They were pushed over at the exact same time that the wall fell twenty years ago. See them fall in this video. Dominoes were invented by the Chinese, who derived them from cubic dice, and they were the basis for playing cards. Dominoes were origionally made from bone or ivory. My pictures show the giant Berlin dominoes and also Chinese dominoes. Now back to the subject of the Berlin Wall. It origionally started as a fence, then was gradually reinforced. Amazing how bad ideas can get out of hand. When the wall fell, tourists chisled off pieces to keep as souvenirs. I don't know if I'd want such a gruesome reminder, would you? I'm trying to think of any time that a wall is a good thing, but I can't. Can you? "No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise." Isaiah 60:18
