Hunted

So many of you guessed right! Yes, this is a chinchilla! He comes from South America, high in the Andes Mountains. And if you would like to have this little fella, he costs $130.00.
These little guys have been hunted and killed to near extinction, and the wild population has never completely recovered. It remains illegal to trap them, but it is still done. This is because of their soft thick fur. It takes between 100 and 200 chinchillas to make one coat. In this picture you can get an idea of their beautiful thick fur.
So now we say goodbye to our furry friend, who by the way is very intelligent. In this picture you can see more of his whole body and his tail. And one other thing, he can jump SIX FEET!

"Blessed be God— he heard me praying. He proved he’s on my side; I’ve thrown my lot in with him. Now I’m jumping for joy, and shouting and singing my thanks to him.”
Psalm 28

Oh, I want one! He looks so so soft doesn't he. I sure didn't know that they could jump like that. I could never have a coat made of such a cute little critter :)

so sad to kill such a beautiful animal just in th name of fashion, we certainly don't need their fur for warmth any longer, they are such delicate little animals, so gentle,

They really are cute. I have seen them priced even higher around here. They aren't inexpensive pets!

They are really cute. I love the fluffy tail! But I never want this beautiful fur as a coat. It is sad they are hunted for that.
It is amazing they can jump 6 feet! Wow!

Never saw one before, even in a photo, although I had an awareness of their use for expensive coats.

Cuddly little critter.
