The Burden Bear

I was admitted to the hospital for four days. I have a perforated colon. This type of thing been an ongoing struggle. My pastor asked me if I was depressed, and I had to say yes. But then something happened. A local church brought these Burden Bears to many of the hospital patients. He has been such a blessing to me, so I am sharing him in case he may be a help to others. I am at home and getting better. But this is an ongoing struggle.. .Everyone has their own struggle, and this bear plus a dear friend has helped me through mine.

See that he is carrying a message? Here is what it says:

I am not a very fancy bear…
I am plain and rather small.
Even so, someone who likes you
Said that I should come to call.
Hide me underneath your pillow
Or set me on a nearby shelf,
And when you feel discouraged
I will do my best to help.
I brought my favorite blanket
That I snuggle when I’m sad
It‘s a present from my granny,
Made for days when things seem bad.
My granny always told me,
“Life is like this patchwork quilt.
Just give Jesus all the pieces
And He’ll make a pretty quilt.
Sometimes I don’t see the pattern…
Sometimes He seems far away,
Then I clutch me favorite blanket,
And I pray, and pray, and pray.
Though I don’t have all the answers
(for I’m just a Burden Bear)
I’ve been sent here on a mission
From someone who really cares.
When you see me, please remember,
YOU are in their thoughts and prayers.

Blessings to all my loyal followers.

i love your burden bear and this poem is perfect. it would be easy to print the poem and attach to bears bought at dollar stores or yard sales and pass them on. here in our county our Fire/EMS/Police carry bears to give out when needed. i love the burden bear name... i am praying with your bear.. love you sis

Ginny I am so sorry you have to go through all this. What does it mean for you. I am glad the bear helped you - it is sweet. I know when my mom was in the hospital they gave her a doll someone had made. Some churches give out blankets. It is a wonderful gift to make others feel good. Hugs.

Ginny your set back is a tough one but with the help of today’s docs that may get sorted. I wish you all the best. When I had colon cander 10 years ago I had a TY stuffed animal that I clutched close to me as I prayed and sought relief. A bear is good too. May you continue to improve. Sending good vibes.

I love the burden bear--it really helps to know others are praying. Our life group makes knitted prayer shawls for those who have life threatening illnesses.
