One

After many nights having a temperature in the thirties, the flowers have been gone for a long time. Except for this one. Just one, all the others have been dead long ago.

The leaves grow in a rosette around the base. Here are the leaves of the others that died back in the fall.

One voice can speak with wisdom,
One heart can know what's true,
One life can make a difference,
You see, it's up to you!

One vote can change a nation,
One sunbeam lights a room
One candle wipes out darkness,
One laugh will conquer gloom.

That's a hardy little thing! The poem reminds me of "It's better to light one candle than curse the darkness."
