Thunder Road

Our son & his family have a dog named Vivian. Vivian is terrified of thunder. While the family was away, a big thunderstorm came.

Vivian chewed through the wood basement door so she could get to the basement and hide. It had a cat door, but she chewed a much larger space. They came home to find blood in every room and a blood-soaked door. Vivians's mouth was full of blood. Here is a bad photo from the cell phone.

The vet said she was fine today and gave her some tranquilizers. And so it goes...

“A dog’s definition of ‘forbidden’ is anything that fits in the mouth and wasn’t handed over with a treat.”

Hi Ginny, poor Vivian. 😢 Glad she is okay and that she didn't cause anymore damage.

Whatever scared her must have been overwhelming; it's heartbreaking to imagine her in such a panic that she hurt herself trying to find a place to feel safe

Poor Vivian! We used to have a dog who was terrified of the sound of fireworks on Guy Fawkes Night when I was growing up. Dogs seem to be generally scared of thunder I think but dear Vivian must have been extra terrified.

Aw poor Vivian. She must have really been frantic to get to the basement. I had a dog years ago that was fine until he got older. Then he could tell when a storm was coming and he would get as close to us as possible and pant nonstop. I remember waking up one time with him laying on top of me panting. I knew a storm was on the way.

Aww, poor Vivian! She must have been so scared. And I bet it scared your son and family when they came home.
My sister's dog is like that and has been helped by something called a thunder shirt. You put it on them when it storms and it feels like they are being hugged.

Poor Vivian. That is exactly how Laydee responds to thunderstorms and fireworks. At least with fireworks we know it’s coming and start her on her meds a couple days before and she isn’t in such a panic but she still feels scared. It’s awful to see that kind of panic in our digs.

Bless Vivians heart...she was so nervous. Glad she will be okay and that she received some meds to help her. Makes me sad especially during Firework season, for the little animals that are so frightened. I know this was a shock for the family as well.

Awwwww.... poor Vivian. Tell her owners to look at the weather report before they ever leave the house & take proper precautions for her. A dog crate in the basement, with a light on & a radio playing, would probably help immensely. A storm came & her family wasn't home....how terrifying for her. Poor girl. ~Andrea xoxo

Oh the poor thing. Sure glad she's okay. I had a dog that didn't mind the thunder but was so afraid of the lightning!
