Glad It's Over

"Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest secure,
because you will not abandon me to the grave..."
Psalm 16:9,10

Well, I have come to the end of my trilogy on gladiolus, and I am glad. Even though they are stately and beautiful, they still give me the creeps. But I wanted to show you some of the different colors I found. They are the August birth flower and the 40th wedding anniversary flower. There are 260 different species of them! The name comes from the word "gladius", meaning sword. They symbolize strength and moral integrity and are reminiscent of the Roman gladiators, because of their tall sword like structure. Just another reason for me to dislike them!

"For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitude of the heart."
Hebrews 4:12

That was a lovely trilogy, even though you're glad it's over! So interesting that you should have such an aversion to them, considering you love flowers and such! What beautiful ones you showcased today - thanks!!

I like the way you have photographed the one by the purple shutter.

The colors are so pretty, I do like that pink and white one. I'm glad you decided to share them with us Ginny.

I've been doing way too many songs lately. When I saw your post title an old Dave Clark Five song popped into my head, "Glad All Over". Never mind, that suddenly sounds very creepy.

More beautiful flowers, my aunties who were brides in the 60s, had their wedding bouquet made with this flower.

Back to the Western Springs photo, the little girl was my daughter. if you look on the upper photo, the woman was me, the man was my FIL.

I never choose glads to bring home but I think they are o.k.. Love your photos, however! I must remind my husband not to send me a bunch when our 40th rolls around.

Best,
Bonnie

I think if each flower was on its own stem, then it would be easier to see the individual beauty of each flower but as it stands now, all we see is the color.

But what lovely color they have.

Beautiful glads, Ginny. And your verse. We only had one (!) YUP! bloom because of the weather this year.

Would you be so kind to leave a comment on my BLOG ONLY, for the Miracle Makeover fund drive. Charlie, 8 yr. old, & his story are fabulous. Every comment brings us a $1 for the next person that will be sponsored.

Have a beautiful weekend.

Ginny I had a good chuckle when I read the two reasons you don't like gladiolas in a prior post. The house in the post before this one is very sad. The people living there must be renters who don't care about the property and the owners must not care that much either.

The colors of the glads that you showed today are beautiful but now I will always associate them with funerals after reading your post..lo!

I'm also glad you like the poem/prayer I listed today!

Enjoy your weekend!
