And best of all, I got to see an airplane fly right through it!!
"Two mock suns rose with the sun and
followed it all through the day until sunset; they are always to the side,
never above or below the sun.” ~
The Greek philosopher Aristotle (384 B.C. – 322

Love that you captured the plane flying through it. - Super cool.
How beautiful, Ginny!! I have heard the word "parhelion" but never knew what it meant. Now I do, thanks to you. I think these pictures are frame worthy. They're absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for sharing them with us. Lovingly, Andrea xoxo
they are all beautiful, I did not know their real name and I like your sun spot better than sun dog also. number 2 photo looks like it is either propping up the cloud above, or dropping from that cloud to the other cloud. spectacular shots of the sunspot
Thanks for sharing this beautiful photo sequence with us. Wonderful captures.
What a beautiful sight.
How pretty. I can't help but wonder if the people in the plane flying through it were able to see the different colors as they passed through
WOW!
And...what were the two mock suns Aristotle was talking about? Was it this phenomena?
How interesting! I didn't know about this, goes to show you, it's never too late to learn something new.
I see these often during the winter, but never have I had the privilege of seeing a plane fly through them. That is too cool.
Hey girl - I think you must sit outside all day to get some of these shots - I never see anything like that - cool.
This is really neat..... and you really did a great job closing in on the photos... Such beauty.
