Meet Blossom; a hen that is known as "spent". A spent laying hen means it has started it's first molt and will not lay for awhile. So they are destroyed at this point.
And now meet this wonderful lady in Missouri, who rescues them and keeps them on her land to live out their life. Blossom likes people better than other hens, and is very loving.
The name of her organization is Second Hen. She has to hold fundraisers to pay for the upkeep of the hens. So...she has come up with these cool posters.
Chick Or Treat
Fluffy the Vampire Layer
Fluffy was asked to say a few words on the news, but would only cluck her approval.
* All photos of Blossom were taken by me from the news on T.V.

What a loving post!
That is so lovely of her to do so
great shots from the TV... love the play on Chicken Tenders. so true in her case. I did not know chickens get to age they don't lay, never really thought about it.
I wonder how old they get before they stop laying. you opened another hole to dive down. ha ha
turns out the hole was not deep, 30 seconds to find out they produce for 5 to 10 years but each year less and less and people in the business of eggs only keep them 2 to 3 years. which means she has a lot of eggs and now I wonder if she sells the eggs... yet another hole. ha ha
I learned something new today. I had no idea about hens being "spent" What a wonderful thing to do for those hens and I like her posters. Chick or treat was really cute.
Aww - that is sweet!
I am thankful for this dear sweet lady and her organization. I'm glad these cute things are rescued and given life.
What a lovely post!! :)
Kudos to her - the chicken tender!
Love the play on words..Chicken Tender. I'm sending that picture to my friend that just got baby chicks this last week. She'll love it.
I know nothing about chickens except I do like eggs... (;0)
Interesting to call them Spent...

Sending HUGS for those "spent" hens.
That's sweet that she cares for the 'spent' hens.
Also, I love your yellow magnolias!
aahh, Blossom is pretty, and what a good person this woman is to take care of these hens on her land for the remainder of their years. I hope she does well with the fundraisers to help pay for the upkeep. What a delightful quote at the end, and so true. Tender loving people for sure.

I have never heard of hens being spent before.
