Good Day For A Hanging

We live in the south, and come spring and summer, the people go hanging crazy!!! There are hanging baskets all over, usually many on almost every street. They really beautify a place and are a delight to see. So I thought I would start this little "Good Day For A Hanging" series that I will post from time to time. These pictures are all at the same place, and were taken about a week ago. Enjoy.

Dandelions

The first picture shows the view from my kitchen window. After getting through a long winter, I just love it when the cheerful little yellow dandelions begin to dot the yard! Yes, I am a dandelion lover. They can grow in the hardest places, like the rocks in my header. I even think there is a sort of beauty when they have gone to seed. And they provide little children with such a tempting puff to blow! Ella says that bees live in dandelions, as witnessed in my fifth picture. But I must admit that I have my doubts about this house you see...their yard is nothing but dandelions and they don't mow them! It's a strange sight, isn't it? And a mystery.

Birthday Celebration!

We had a fun filled birthday celebration yesterday. Phil's brother and family came and we all ate at Cracker Barrel, along with our son and his family. After dinner, we all went to their motel to swim in the big heated pool. Anne Marie is not the only little Chinese girl in our family, we have several, and her little cousins are just adorable!!! They have not learned to swim yet and were taking some pointers from Anne. Why are Phil and I not in the pictures? We did not get in the pool, we sat on the deck watching and laughing while I snapped the pictures. Next to last picture you see poor little Gabriella crying. She had taken quite a fall on the hard deck (she had been running after told not to, of course). But thankfully she was fine. And of course what would a birthday be without a card from Anne Marie? Wish I would have snapped the other side, she drew Phil wearing pink shorts!

The Love Of My Life

Today was Phil's birthday, he turned 72. I have never known a person in my life who I admire more. Who is more gentle, thoughtful, funny, wise, and insightful. He is truly the love of my life and a gift from God, the best gift ever. I hope we have many more years together! Hopefully I will be showing you pictures of our celebration on my next post.

Singing In The Rain

On my last post, I promised you another big building with something on it, and here it is. This beautiful building is in downtown Staunton, Va., and was built in 1895. The huge umbrella on it really did have me singing in the rain when I saw it. Today, Duke & Fitzpenn are in it, selling English antiques. It was always called The Marquis Building, but of course now everyone just calls it The Umbrella Building. The umbrella was installed by a man who had a men's clothing store in the building. They say it is made from tin. But it looks nothing like tin, it looks real.

"He pulls water up out of the sea, distills it, and fills up his rain-cloud cisterns. Then the skies open up and pour out soaking showers on everyone. Does anyone have the slightest idea how this happens? How he arranges the clouds, how he speaks in thunder? This is the Richmond Dairy Apartments. It used to be The Richmond Dairy. I am glad that they did not renovate and remove the big bottles, what an extraordinary building! There is actually another milk bottle on the other side of the building, and I am sorry I missed it. You can see just a tiny bit of it in the header if you look over to the left side of the building. This photo session was quite fun! On my next post, I will show you another big building with a different giant object on it!

Sunday Coupons

 

On Sundays, I enjoy looking through the coupons in the newspaper. My favorite part is seeing what brand new food items are in the stores. And today I saw these two ads for really yummy looking food. I adore soups and stews, even in the summer, and I was drooling over this, it is even all natural! So I decided to tear out the coupon and buy it. Same for these little bagged snacks. Upon a closer look, they are both DOG foods! And this has happened to me much more than once., I get fooled ALL the TIME!! Well, if these are dog food, just give me a leash and call me Fido, ruff ruff!!
