The Holes

Something has been digging holes in our yard. Lots of holes, dozens. The same for our next door neighbor. We have had flickers dig there, but their holes are not this extensive. We asked our neighbor what he thinks, and he told us he thinks it is a skunk digging for moles. We do have skunks once in awhile, and I know they have long sharp claws and dig. What do YOU think it is?? I wish we knew!

This Afternoon

Upon leaving the grocery store this afternoon, this is what we saw. Snapped from the parking lot.

It's Four 0'Clock

Each year I usually show our four 0'Clocks at the side and back of the house. They were here when we moved in over 30 years ago, and bloom every year. The name is because they only bloom in the late afternoon or cloudy days.

The Last Of Fall?

It is to be in the teens tonight, and was 30 today. We broke records with the cold. Seems like we completely skipped fall and went straight from summer to winter. So here are maybe my last fall images. Here are some yards in the neighborhood.

This is downtown, looking down from up on the hill.

November comes
      And November goes,
      With the last red berries
      And the first white snows.
With night coming early,
      And dawn coming late,
      And ice in the bucket
      And frost by the gate.
The fires burn
      And the kettles sing,
      And earth sinks to rest
      Until next spring.

The Bluebird

This mural took me by surprise.  It is rather unsettling. Any ideas on the meaning?

Glowing

These trees a few blocks away were just glowing! They were so luminous that it seemed they could glow in the dark.

It's so splendid to see the morning coming up over those long hills and glowing through those sharp fir tops. It's new every morning, and I feel as if I washed my very soul in that bath of earliest sunshine.

Jesus & The Sparrow

Passing our only local Catholic Church, I looked up at Jesus.  This little bird had perched on him.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.”
Matthew 10
