The Blanket

Pretty flowers, right?

No, just hundreds of petals making a beautiful blanket.

I have seen a flower blooming in beauty in a secluded vale, and, ere I had a chance to look again, a chilly breath of air had scattered its petals and left it a ruin .

Down The Primrose Path

Meet the Showy Evening Primrose. They grow almost everywhere around here. And in spite of their name, they do bloom in the day.

‘The Primrose opens wide in spring;
Her scent is sweet and good:
It smells of every happy thing
In sunny lane and wood…’

The Sign

We passed this sign a few days ago. What building do you think it was in front of? A hospital? Maybe a nursing home or a fire station?

Well, you would be wrong. It is in front of the post office. I sure hope the post office recovers from it's problems. What would we do without it? Did you know that Benjamin Franklin was the first Postmaster General?

Their motto is:
"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds"
The motto comes from “The Persian Wars” by Herodotus. During the wars between the Greeks and Persians (500-449 B.C.), the Persians used a system of mounted couriers.

The Picnic

This is one of the latest puzzles we did, an animal picnic. I think that nowadays picnics can be fun with social distancing.

“We hope that, when the insects take over the world, they will remember with gratitude how we took them along on all our picnics.”

The Worshipped One

Meet the Black Headed Ibis. We saw him in a zoo. Such a large and beautiful bird. There are 28 different kinds of Ibis!

In ancient Egypt, Ibis were worshipped and hunting them was forbidden.

“Worship and serve him heart and soul! Don’t chase after ghost-gods. There’s nothing to them. They can’t help you. They’re nothing but ghost-gods! God, simply because of who he is, is not going to walk off and leave his people. God took delight in making you into his very own people.”
1 Samuel 12

I'm Blushing

Most of the Hibiscus around here are this color. It is very popular, and is called Blush. These were all on this one bush in a neighbor's yard.

Someone had put out fake hibiscus!

"People from a planet without flowers would think we must be mad with joy the whole time to have such things about us."

Think Pink!

Washington D.C. just had it's Cherry Blossom Festival. I always try to post it every year, from our T.V., of course. There was so much ...
