YES!!!!

My computer is up and running!! And best of all, we were able to save all my data on an external hard drive!! The computer tech fiddled around with it for awhile, and finally, it just started! He has no idea what was wrong with it, but he said that Vista is real good at finding problems and fixing itself. We immediately backed up all my data while we could, and now I'm hoping that it stays fixed! He said that if it quits again, he will come back and diagnose it for free. You can now e-mail me at my regular, old e-mail address. The computer tech informed me that I have 6,300 pictures on my hard drive!!! I was stunned! How many do you have? It might surprise you! So to celebrate the return of my pictures, I am showing you one of my favorites, a peony. To see more peonies, and read the short story of how this flower got it's name, CLICK HERE. I have many stories to share with you about what has been going on with us on this painful, yet joyous weekend! Hope the rest of yours is great!!

Oh, I'm so happy for you! I can relate - I have mine all backed up on an external hard drive. Love that peony! Don't like bringing them into the house though because of their friends - the mini - teensy-weensy ants! I had a row of pure white peonies in one of our gardens - such beauties!

I'm sure I have at least that many photos, but at least they are all backed up on an external drive. We have backup running automatically, so that's one thing we don't have to worry about forgetting to do.
I'm glad you're up and running again.

I hate to even think about this--but I just checked my picture folder and there's about 31,000 pictures in it..... GADS!!!!

George probably has more than I do... He didn't check his because he has his in several different places on his computer.

Glad you are up and running!!!! I know you will sleep well tonight.

Hugs,
Betsy

Congratulations! It is always nice when a computer gets its act in gear. Of course, after something like this I always fear it will suddenly stop again.

Ginny, I am so glad to hear your computer is up and running again. Maybe it will behave itself now.

It sounds like you really didn't need the extra hassle of the computer crashing this weekend. I hope all is well with you and your family.

I will cry if my computer died.

The chillis do look like Chinese hats.

You will have to be very brave to eat the chillis.

i don't know how many, but i do know i have 98 gigs of photos on an exterrnal hard drive that I keep only photos on, my guess is around 40,000 or more since i have 2 drawers full of CD's of photos starting in 2002 when i bought the first digital of 4 cameras.
i hope you put your photos on the extra drive yesterday. i have been thinking i should take my favorites and put themon a flash drive or CD for back up to back up. even if we lost our photos we cold just take more....

Very happy for you, Ginny. Computers are very strange "beings" sometimes. I'd advise you to continue making external backups of your photos to be on the safe side.

Yea! So glad you're up and running! Isn't horrible how we can feel like our right arm has just been cut off when we can't use our computers!!
Thanks for all the info on your camera, Ginny! I think I'm almost as excited about it as you are!!! My boyfriend and took a look at it last night and I'm sold!! Love the zoom, it's all about the zoom!!!
Looking forward to seeing what's up next now that your computer is all better now!
Have a fabulous day!

Good news! When the computer works, I'm a computer genius. When it doesn't, I'm less than useless!! I need to think about backing up some things. Just when I thought I was finished with decisions for awhile.

Now you can relax. Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend.

Best,
Bonnie

Glad you're back! Do you still have peonies blooming? Lucky you.

We try to move photos on to CDs every now and then. It's such a big job, though, because you have to look at every one, right? Just like cleaning a cupboard full of the kids' old stuff.

Computer problems are the pits! I'm glad your up and running. :-)

So happy your computer problems are fixed! I have Vista too. I was about to throw it out the window until my husband found that you need at least 1Gb of RAM for it to run smoothly. Mine works so much better now. Maybe that will help you.

The peony is beautiful! I have a white one. They smell incredibly wonderful!

Have a great week. :)

Ginny, So glad that your machine recovered! I remember once in Africa that I prayed for God to "heal" my computer because I had no one there whom I knew and trusted to work on it. Guess what? It started working again. I was telling our missionary doctor about it and he said, "Well, they do say computers have viruses...so why not?

Currently there are 16,047 pictures in a picture folder on my "H" drive, which is an outboard drive of 240GB size. The pictures take up 13GB. I have a 2TB outboard drive for video work. It's the only way to go. I'm sure I have lost that many pictures in the past when I've had total crashes of computers - with no outboard drives to go back to.
