Meet the dogs and cats of Charlottesville, Virginia. Last summer, local artists made these wonderful creatures and put them in front of stores all around town. Each store sold $10.00 raffle tickets to win their dog or cat. If you had the money, you could go to several stores and buy tickets for your favorite ones. And here is the best part. ALL of the money went to the local SPCA! And people got to own one of these beautiful pieces. I think it was an amazing idea! All together there were 19 dogs and cats, but I was only able to snap these eleven. Which one would YOU have wanted? I love the blackboard dog, wouldn't he be fun to write memos on?

i love that poem at the beginning and it is so true. they have no voice, and this is wonderful that they raised money for the SPCA.. great idea. i would not want one but i would buy a ticket just to give the money... i like the shape of the yellow one best but not the color.
they are amazing, I like the mosaic one, that would be my choice!

I love the dogs and cats. My favorite is also the blackboard dog. Memphis has painted Tigers in honor of the University of Memphis' 100 anniversary. Some are gauty but interesting. Germantown, a burb of Memphis has horses. Some are really pretty. Love your posts. Jean in Memphis

Yes the rock border was a special jellybean candy that looks just like rocks! My BFF from second grade sent them to me...she works at a general store place in Abingdon.
Beautiful, I have already seen such statures with lions and bears but never dogs. Like it.

My favorite would be the bright blue one with the flowers and the black eye. He's a real cutie.
If you are looking for a frame to make a chalk board, the best place I've found is yard sales. After you find one have your hubby cut a smooth piece of plywood to fit it and paint it with chalk board paint. You can find gorgeous frames at yard sales and flea markets. Great prices, too :)

I just simply could not choose a favorite.
