So what do you think, gross or not? Each year I see more and more of these, usually at upscale markets.. They are a gourd or winter squash called "curcurbita maxima". They were cultivated to look this way in a village near Bordeaux in France, and are considered to be a French heirloom. Supposed to be quite creamy and tasty. Would you buy or eat one? I have just one word "ewww".
“One of the men went out into the field to
get some herbs; he came across a wild vine and picked gourds from it, filling
his gunnysack. He brought them back, sliced them up, and put them in the stew,
even though no one knew what kind of plant it was.”

I actually think they are very cool looking so yes I would buy one :)
Hi Ginny, first time I have seen this.. yes, they look very odd, kind of special too! Can they be eaten?
Oh wow I have never seen one of these before. Interesting!
That is not an attractive pumpkin!
I think I would give one a try, very unusual looking!
i thought someone was making weird pumpkins for Halloween, by gluing stuff on one.. or that you found a brain from an alien that landed in your city. ewwww is exactly what i thought... never seen one and wonder what they taste like. i think God makes prettier things than man does. for sure...
Well at first I thought gross - but I have to say it is growing on me - I love funny different quirky things!
I agree with you. It looks like a lichen or disease.
Oh, I love the looks of it....love all the texture. Yes, I would at least taste of it.
Unusual....!!

I would not buy it and certainly not eat it. We love however to make pumkin soup.
Greetings,
Filip
I've not seen these. I would try a bite - I'll try anything once!
HI Ginny I have neve seen thes before. To me they look like they have carbunkles all over them!!
They certainly don't have eye appeal for me.
Never seen anything like this before.... Thanks for sharing...
I say maxima grossia!!!
Gives me the willies.
Hi Ginny, I'm with you! Have a great evening and a super day tomorrow!
Bless their hearts...wait, do pumpkins have hearts? I just want to feel sorry for them....however, God did make them for a purpose. I just want to pick that stuff off so they can look all pretty and be one that the kids would want to choose. Does make for some interesting conversation though...
Blessings,
Shug
Hello Ginny
Thank you for visiting our blog and for your lovely compliments about my painting and the mini-me's.
Yes I do sell them, they work out about $21 for a cat or dog and $25 for dogs with long hair and the big greyhounds. Postage is extra. They do take around 6 to 8 hours to make though so a lot of work is involved. My email address is on the sidebar of our blog if you would like to order one anytime.
Wow, that is some pumpkin - I have never seen anything like it!
Lynne
Definitely not one that I would pick. I never saw anything like it.
I agree with your concise assessment. And wasn't that the Bible story where everybody who ate the stew got sick?
ewww! perfect for Halloween!
Hope you're doing well. :)
Ginny, this is amazing, I have never seen anything like this, ever!
Never did develop a taste for pumpkin, except perhaps a piece of pumpkin pie once a year - topped with whipped cream though! No, I would not be tempted to buy one or even take one for free! It looks diseased to me. It certainly is a curiosity, isn't it!!
Wow I've never seen such pumpking before. Looks a bit scary to me..haha.
