The Air Is Full Of Sunlight & The Flag Is Full Of Stars

I love how my pictures turned out of the flag in front of the sunset! You know that Betsy Ross designed our first flag, but did you know that a high school student designed our current flag? It was a school project where Robert Heft designed a flag to include Alaska and Hawaii. He got a B- from his teacher. But in 1960, when President Eisenhower choose his design as our new flag, the teacher reconsidered and gave him a A.

“To the blessed land of Room Enough beyond the ocean bars,
Where the air is full of sunlight and the flag is full of stars.”

Henry Van Dyke

“Everybody everywhere, all earth-dwellers: When you see a flag flying on the mountain, look! When you hear the trumpet blown, listen!
Isaiah 18

I did know about Betsy Ross but not about the later design of the flag. Interesting

OMGoodness...an "A" instead of a B-....well, now....if that don't beat all.

I enjoyed the beautiful sunset images...and the bit of trivia was outstanding.

Such beautiful photos of the flag! I didn't know the current flag was designed by high school student. Totally deserves A :-)

I almost missed your post and great flag photos!! And, if the answer of who designed our current flag comes up on Jeopardy, I'll have the right question!!

Best,
Bonnie

Ginny, you have outdone yourself with this gorgeous photo of the flag at sunset.

I like that Robert's teacher reconsidered after the President choose his design but it should have been an A+.
