The Ginko tree is a living fossil, unchanged for more than 270 million years. This makes it the oldest tree on earth; a living ink to the dinosaurs.
How can you identify one? Because it's leaves are shaped like butterflies!

childhood is what anyone wants to remember of it. It leaves behind no fossils, except perhaps in fiction.” ~Carol

I need to find those trees and load up on the leaves if it will help my memory. Another interesting and informative post. Could not sleep so doing comments. You think I have a problem?
That is simply amazing! I learn something new every time I visit you!
Love the glorious color of those leaves!
I can only say AMAZING!
So lovely and I like the way you say Fossil.. that is my favorite brand name too! :)
Fascinating!
We have some of those down here - they are drop dead gorgeous - I did not know they were the oldest type tree tho.
We have a huge Ginko in our front yard, Ginny. I am impatiently waiting its full burst of yellow brilliance. Can't wait to share its beauty when it finally exploded into glorious color.
I love this tree & it's amazing yellow butterfly leaves!
Thanks for sharing!
Wow, what a color! Ginko Biloba trees are so gorgeous. I love the yellow carpet they made on the grounds! Didn't know they are the oldest tree on earth. And I haven't noticed their leaves are shaped like butterflies. You have a really good sense to find beauty in nature :-)
I have my calculator running the numbers on how many of these stunning leaves you should mail to me. 1 per brain cell I am thinking. LOL.... love the trees, the colors and the info. WOW
Never saw so much yellow in my life. Top pictures.
Greetings,
Filip
That's an interesting tree. I'm pretty sure they don't grow in my area, at least I've never seen one.
I love this tree with butterfly leaves. Heard of Ginko but haven't seen the tree. The fallen leaves look like a yellow carpet.
I love the Ginkgo tree....I just think their leaves are so, so beautiful.
Tbe leaves are a beautiful color and shape. I've taken ginko biloba tablets and they didn't seem to help. At least if they did, I don't remember it. :)
Gosh...I love the color. Such a happy color
