Continuing my post from yesterday about the purchase of a cane. When little Ella came over today, she was overjoyed to see the cane, and couldn't keep her hands off it. Well, at least someone was glad to see it. When I told her that I needed the cane because my knee hurt, she said that what I really needed was a stuffed animal, not a cane. Then she proceded to tell me that her great-grandfather had a cane. She said that this was because he was very, very old. And then she struck this pose with the cane to show me how great-grandfather looked in his old age with his cane. Gads!!! Along with the laugh, I felt a shiver as I wondered if this grim smirk was my future as I now hobble along through life. Does she think that all old people look like this? Has she seen no joyful seniors? Something for me to be mindful of, for sure. I need to prove her wrong.
"Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you." Isaiah 46:4

Haha! She's got that pained look down pat!! I bet she lifts your spirits - I know my grands do! I guess the joy of the Lord really needs to be on our face, but chronic pain can truly do a number on our expression. Hugs!
Just look at her face!! hahahaa...so cheeky and yet so adorable!
This is just priceless, Ginny. The innocent and blunt honesty of children is awesome to behold.
That is a priceless expression on her face! As you say, you'll just have to prove her wrong! Have a wonderful weekend Ginny.
Oh my goodness, the look on Ella's face is adorable. When my stepdaughter was that age anyone over 21 was ancient to her so I guess it's a matter of perspective.
You could get the solid black one then turn Ella loose with a package of stickers!
Cute, cute picture! So very expressive!
Jane
What an adorable child! What a blessing for you.
Just a reminder: Older is better! Soon we'll personally meet "the ancient of days"! As my Dad often said, "I want to get old! The only alternative is to die young!"
i am certain you will not have that sour old person look. The Lord does sustain us, in old age or in my case right now, in deep trials.
Blessings,ruth
What an adorable picture!! She is so cute. :)
when I had my first son at age 20, my mother was only 40 and i thought she was really old. it's all in the perception. this photo is so adorable, she really does look old, she got it right, maybe she will be and actress? she has the looks plus the talent.
i am thinking about the cane, other than using a glitter stick or some of the stones they stick on T-shirts. go to Michaels and check out all the things they decorate shirts with, that would work. diamonds and emaralds would be good, but take Phil with you so someone does not mug you for your cane. rhiinestone walker????
As for how to jazz up a black cane, oh, that can't be too difficult, can it? Tie some fancy ribbons around it, or use glitter tape and stickers...
Or otherwise just decide that black is super elegant and sophisticated, and act like it! ;)
Your picture reminds me of when I was a little girl... visiting my paternal grandparents. I used to borrow my grandfather's cane, and dress up in a headscarf and apron belonging to my grandmother, and play that I was an old woman, too. My grandmother was very good at playing along with me! Oh yes, I suppose she was old in my eyes, but she was also good at remembering her own childhood.
This is really priceless. Children are great mimics. Give her a big hug and have a great day. Blessings...Mary
Isn't it funny how relative old age is? I know I'm way older now than I planned to be when I was Ella's age! But in my head I'm not old at all.
I volunteer with seniors every day and some do look like that. But so many more have the joyful expression that you want to see, Ginny.
That Ella is a hoot! I'd get a plain black cane and turn Anne Marie and Ella loose with stickers and go with what they come up with. You'll be the talk of the town!
The recipe that I just posted was prepared for us in Staunton when we were visiting a long, long time ago. We purchased a coconut cream pie from Rowe's for dessert. It wasn't until we eagerly dug into the pie that we realized Mrs. R. had forgotten to put the sugar in! Yuck!
Best,
Bonnie
LOL... Ella you have made me laugh so hard that tears rolled down my face.
Ginny, it seems she knows how to care for ailing people. A stuffed animal is a great cure for most of what can ail a person. ;o)
I vote for stickers on the black cane if you switch it out. Or... what's wrong with pink spray paint? lol
Ginny, so sorry about getting the name of Menno Simons wrong in my blog. Bet you knew that all the time!
Now, that is an expression I have seen somewhere before... Oh... do you remember Mr. Magoo? Seems like he had that scrunched up face as well! So funny!
You could get the all black cane and then glue some of those fake jewels all on it, I think a jewel encrusted cane would be quite the fashion statement!
I love this picture. She's too cute andt he cane...it's got class...☺
Hi Ginny, The Bible verse you chose to add to today's post really says it all! You'll be fine with which ever cane you think is most helpful. Function and safety over beauty works all the time for me.
Now THAT is cute!
hahahaha... Ella is so cute. Kids really say the funniest things. I so love her. She makes me laugh. I can't blame you for loving her.
Well, Ginny, I hate to break it to you, but Ella's great grandfather doesn't use a cane...but I love the photo of her. She is too funny.
I'm having a wonderful time here with Sue. We went to Lake Tahoe today. Wow, such beauty.
Now that's about the best looking "Portrait of a Geezer" I think I've ever seen. :-)
Love the post title and Ella really outdid herself in this pose. Great picture. Bev was laughing out loud at it.
love the photo. Maybe she just wanted to give you a chuckle. Take Rose
Is that this month's moon? Because I was looking at it the other night and wishing I had a lots better camera to take a photo of it. Full moon's are so beautiful. It's still hard to imagine people were up there walking around.
Kids love using the walking canes.
Re: Dimsum, it is little baskets with with morsels of food. When your grand daughter grows older, it will be great to take her to a restaurant for her culture.
I needed this today. Thanks. Your granddaughter is a cutie!

Oh that Ella is something else.... Kids can be too darn honest, can't they????I remember when my grandson was quite young, he meet George's Daddy... Chris ran up to Dad and gave him a big hug --which surprised us all since Chris had never met Dad. We found out later that Dad reminded Chris of one of the elderly characters in some movie.... How funny was that!!!!
Get the black cane--if it is better... Knowing you, you can decorate it all sorts of ways. Get some TASSELS. There was a lady who had MS in my church --so she used a cane to get around. She had that cane decorated all sorts of ways --for the seasons of the year.... AND--you'll have to tell Ella that this lady wasn't THAT old... ha ha
Hugs,
Betsy
She's so cute! And I like the cane just the way it is! The verse you posted is so full of hope and one of my favorites!
Ahh, this is just priceless!! I know..I can just imagine what they think..as I try to recall what I thought way back! Oh what a pose!!
