This is the third and last of my trilogy about strange and unusual purses. I do want to thank my wonderful male followers for being so patient with me, and I promise that this is the last of the purses! Take a close look at these, what do you think they are made of? These purses are made from folded up cookie and candy wrappers! They reside in the gift shop of a museum that we visited. I love shopping for purses the way most women like shopping for shoes, so I sure wanted one of these. But they were quite expensive. I think some were around $100.00 or more. I wasn't willing to pay the price. But they reminded me of grade school. Are you old enough to remember when kids folded gum wrappers in long chains to make necklaces and bracelets? We chewed only to get the wrappers. I sure would have saved some of them if I knew how much money this kind of thing could fetch, who knew? We ourselves are the most costly things that exist, because we were bought at the higest price of all.
"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have recieved from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price." 1 Cor. 6:21

Oh wow..a bag with candy and cookie wrappers!!!!that's very creative too...Thanks for sharing this creative art....
hate to say it, i remember the necklaces you mentioned. can't believe how expensive the purses can cost. yes, i volunteer at the kitchen. whenever a person goes and gets their food they always say thank you and it feels so good. take care. rose
I remember making bracelets, rings and necklaces from gum wrappers. It was fun but they never lasted.
I have seen these purses in several stores and online. They can get very pricey but they are cute.
I'm like you when it comes to handbags Ginny, I would rather have a new purse than new shoes.
I like handbags too but nowadays I buy less things on impulse, a bag needs to be practical. A good thing about the camera is that you can "get" lots of things to look at, without actually buying them...
Dear Ginny, I have been so absent this week and I've missed so much. Seeing this exciting and colorful purse was like biting into a Starburst candy. Your reminder of weaving and folding gum wrappers was like a drop kick that scored the winning touchdown. What a fun memory. But most of all, I love the theme you gave to us of the price of hard work, the price of self-sacrifice, and ultimately, the price of salvation. Truly a beautiful post.
I remember the gum wrapper chains too! Fun memories and what a wild idea for a purse! Wishing you a blessed weekend Ginny.
Environmental friendly.. dont they.. so colorful and beautiful too!
Those are cool, Ginny. I may have been a little before the necklaces and stuff. I do remember folding wrappers, but not particularly making stuff out of them.
They certainly have vivid colors.
Good morning Ginny,
I have seen purses similar to these before. I think that they are wonderful. The best purse I ever saw was made from an old album cover. Enjoy the weekend,
Jane
I led a deprived childhood because we weren't allowed to chew gum!!!!! We did sneak it from time to time. I never saw those necklaces though.
I bought two of those purses for young friends at Christmas a few years ago. They were about the size of cosmetic bags and in a local store. No where near a hundred dollars. The girls loved them.
I'd rather have one good handbag that lasts for a decade or more than new ones more frequently.
Best,
Bonnie
Very interesting.$100.00,that is too much for a purse,in my mind. They are colorful.
Blessings,Ruth
they must cost a lot because they are considered art. amazing what some people can do with almost nothing. part of keeping our planet green.
i remember folding airplanes and making chains and stringing popcorn, all those fun things we just go out and buy now. maybe we were artists and did not know it?
i have enjoyed the pretty purse posts...
I have seen these and they come at a high price... I agree with you they do remind me of grade school.
I love the header picture BTW.
WOW! That did bring back memories and I confess that I never learned to do that as a child! But I wished I did-ha! Who knew? hugs
Yes ... I'm old enough to remember that! Interesting project that you have shown us.
These types of purses, and jewelry are made also by many people in third world countries as a means of employment. Take a look at Anna Carson blog (on my sidebar) and on my links on FB for (31 bits) That shows some amazing work by women in dire straights.
I don't think that is the case for these very arty purses though. Great post Ginny.
That is so creative!
Interesting recycling projects - creative and practical at the same time. Cute!
Yes, I remember making those gum wrapper chains. Also remember making the little clover flower bracelets too. Simple pleasures.
Thats neat..love artsy stuff! I finally broke down and picked up a couple hand bags this week-
Someone I knew mentioned her daughters buying pricy handbags but bras- at Walmart? I can't go for the most expensive, but I do try to pick something that looks decent but has to match!
Hi Ginny, I would have guessed magazines... I never thought of cookie and candy wrappers ... That's neat. But--I'm like you... I wouldn't pay that much for any purse... I'm not a purse-person anymore though --and usualy carry a tote with lots of stuff in it instead of a purse...
Hope you are having a great day.
Hugs,
Betsy
I find these purses to be fascinating. Who ever made them has a lot of talent and creativity. Very impressive.
Oh my goodness I sure do remember making them, but not sure at all how they would put it together as a purse! sandie
Hi Ginny, How clever and colorful! I used to make those gum wrapper chains when I was in Jr. HIgh. Brings back memories. Interesting how these have been crafted into purses and bags. Imagine that! Have a great Friday evening and equally great Saturday!
We have a newly renovated organn the Klais Pipe organ in Auckland Town Hall
The photo shows a speciment of the pipes, you are right, they do look like bullets.
If you sit in the Auckland Town Hall and look above the stage, you will see an imposing array of 82 shining pipes, with a complex control console in the centre.
Behind the façade of the Auckland Town Hall Organ is a very complex system of machinery which produces very beautiful musical sounds. The organ contains sets of pipes - over 5000 in total
I will have to be a princess to afford your bags.
gorgeous. i love purses. oh you know that already. and yes i love shoes too. i love matching shoes and purses. but i don't think they have a pair of shoes made of cookie wrappers, do they? hahaha this is very creative. very environmental friendly. love it.
