Last night we went to the Trinity Episcopal Church to hear "Les Petits Chanteurs" Haitian men & boys choir. There were about 750 people there, they were even sitting on the steps and on the floor. The choir has toured the U.S. for over 10 years, singing at the Kennedy Center, The Lincoln Center, and with The Boston Symphony. Their music school on the grounds of The Episcopal Chapel in Port-Au-Prince, was flattened in the earthquake. They lost everything, including four students and two teachers, and have been living in tents. This tour is being sponsered by the Virginia Haiti Collaborative, and they are staying in the homes of church members. They are hoping to raise enough money to rebuild their school. They sing with joy. They sing for the six who they lost. They sing of their love for God. All the news and T.V. media were there filming it, so come along with me now. And if you close your eyes, perhaps you can even hear some very faint but beautiful voices as they float on the summer air, an audible message of love and hope through even the worst of times.
Shout to the Lord, all the earth, let us sing
Power and majesty, praise to the King;
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar at the sound of your name.
I sing for the joy at the work of your hands,
Forever I'll love you, forever I'll stand,
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You.
My comfort, my shelter,tower of refuge and strength;
Let every breath, all that I am never cease to worship you.

What inspiration they are. I know that was an awesome experience for all in attendance. That's a lovely sanctuary.
I love your perspective in the header picture! Beautiful post.
I'll youtube um Ginny (smile). That's a big choir! Their voices must of been powerful..sounds like a beautiful event-
It must have been a wonderful event to attend. I can just imagine how thrilling it would have been to hear this choir sing. That is a beautiful church, I really like the angle you used on the interior shot.
THAT would have been nice to see and hear. And I love the chapel.
Beautiful church. I'm sure that the music was excellent!

Beautiful photos of the church. I have not tried to take my church's photos because my camera's flash is not very strong.
I've seen this wonderful group on television. Amazing!
The church reminds me of "Lord's Chapel" from the Mitford series.
Best,
Bonnie
what a beautiful church. i love the header shot with the tree. i know their voices were heavenly. we had a childrens african choir and they were wonderful, so i know the type of music. i love harmony in music. wish i could have been there with you
Most Haitians do sing with heavenly harmony! Their "soul music" is their best.
How wonderful...I wish I could hear them. One of our daughters went to Haiti about 5 years ago. When the earthquake hit she was so broken..."mom, things were so horrible for most people there before the earthquake...I can't imagine what it's like now". We also have good friends who have lived down there for a season and are now trying to help a local company start a business down there to supply parts they usually get from China....so praying they can get through all the corrupt red tape down there. "Grant this group favor God to gather the funds to build that new school. Encourage them in their relationship with You and direct their steps as they walk out Your plans for their life. In Jesus name, AMEN & AMEN
Hi Ginny, How wonderful for you that you got to worship with this particular choir! I hope you'll have a very good day today!
Music is uplifting and can bring strength where we thought there was none. Great that you could be there to hear this group.
I guess this would be bringing beauty out of ashes.I love that song you posted.
Blessings,Ruth
What a great post! I think I can hear the music and the joyful voices in song....
I think it's wonderful that the media is covering this choir. Hopefully the coverage will bring more awareness and help them raise the money needed to rebuild their school.
I just love that prayerful song you have ended this post with. If I ever hear of the Haitian Boys Choir in our area, I will be sure to not miss them.
Hi, Glad you got to hear them... I've heard them in past ---or a similar group... I remember them being fabulous...
Glad your city supported them so well... That Episcopal Church is GORGEOUS.... Wow!!!!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
That's an incredible story. What an amazing testimony--really, really humbling. That's something I need to strive for more--to seek joy in ALL circumstances.
What a gorgeous blog you have--thanks for sharing!
Re: Jet boat
The ride was very fast and almost dangerous. We were sitting at the back, and our friend D was sitting in front. The driver made 2 360 degrees turn. D went into the front part of the boat (That triangle part) and bump his head. Exhilarating as it was, right there and then, I decided not to go on another ride ever.
I believe I've heard thsi choir sing on TV. They have such wonderful voices. So sad about those members that were lost in that terrible earthquake.
That's the oddest news vehicle I've ever seen! A burgundy Hyundai Elantra GT...neat!
(Sorry about that. My inner journalist compels me to always focus on the coverage. I so love this profession.)
thanks for sharing this Ginny. i really enjoy the photos of worship and the joy i rejoicing of the Lord's faithfuls.
including the youtube video with this post would have been awesome!!
