Slipping Away

God only knows, God makes his plan
The information's unavailable to the mortal man
We're working our jobs, collect our pay
Believe we're gliding down the highway
When in fact we're slip slidin' away

Slip slidin' away, slip slidin' away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you're slip slidin' away
Paul Simon

Somehow when I wasn't looking, summer slid just out of reach, gone for another year. It seems I just blinked, and it was fall. As Dr, Seuss would say "How did it get so late so soon?" Now the red and yellow leaves are falling and there is a nip in the air. Being in my senior years, I would be fearful of this slippery slope indeed, if I did not know that God has has eye on me all the time, summer or winter. I don't know any of the people in these pictures, not even the cat, who is waiting to slide into the creek. They are just slippery moments in time that happened to cross my path in the hot summer months.

When I said "My foot is slipping", your love, O Lord, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul." Psalm 94:18

One of my all time favorite Paul Simon songs. The water slides are a nice look back at summer, it did slip away quickly this year.

That poor cat seems to be wondering why humans like water so much.

Great post Ginny! True - life is slip-slidin away but you know, every season brings it's special joys. In every season, as you point out, it's good to know our creator God is watching every move we make and ready to catch us lest we should slip and slide too far.

Time truly is slipping away and fast.I am so painfully aware of this. Were it not for God on o¨r side this would be so sad.

Sometimes, when we tend to hold a thing too tightly they tend to slip all the more fast...
And Thank God for the unpredictability in life that we can Enjoy this beautiful moment...

I liked Paul Simon too. So did you ride down at least once with the kids? I think in that yard with no one around and that nice hill - old Chatty would have! lol

Love, sandie

Like many others, I remember that PS song. The kids sure have a perfect hill to place their slip-n-slide! Very encouraging verses you have shared today and so artfully woven into the story. Blessings to you this beautiful Sunday.

What a fun place for kids to slide! Great pictures - cute cat watching the proceedings. If going downhill in our life were only as easy as slipping down a summer slide!! That's why I LOVE your Scripture verse. Climbing life's mountain with the strength of our youth seemed so effortless way back when. Now, climbing down into the fertile valley seems to go much too fast - at breakneck speeds. BUT, our Lord is with us and His LOVE supports us every precarious step of the way.

This Thanksgiving week-end in Canada, I'm grateful that I can give thanks everyday because of what HE has done in my life.

I just told someone on another blog post this morning how quickly October is flying by... Seems like life is SLIPPING AWAY at times... Gosh --the older I get, the faster it goes...

Love seeing kids play on the slide... Looks like fun --and so much better than kids sitting around playing those video games or watching TV.

Hope you have a great day..
Hugs,
Betsy

My brother and I used to do that in our backyard! It was such fun - even though we got sore rumps from landing hard and THEN sliding!! ;o)

Slip and slides are a lot of fun but slip sliding away from God is never a good thing.

A lovely post, Ginny. Yes, it is going by fast, isn't it. Keep those leaves on the trees until I get there. I'll probably leave here on Friday of Saturday.

Hi Ginny, I used to love my Slip N Slide in the hot Summer of Southern CA. My only regret was that because I had the original model way back in the early 1960's, the slide plastic did not have a rounded edge. Yes, I was a victim of a very nasty paper cut type gash that sliced my knee wide open to the bone. Sorry to be graphic. That is why the toy was modified and now is a lot safer. Remind users to stay in the middle of the plastic just to be safe.
Have a splendid 10-10-10!

Yes, how did it get so late so soon? I feel that I have missed the majority of summer - because of the heat and dealing with the care of elderly parents. But I do love the fall, and now that things have calmed down - somehwat - I will try to do a better job of enjoying fall than I did summer!

I think we have a few more "slip 'n slide" days ahead here, but not many!

Time does slip away so fast! Wish it would slow down a bit! Great post and encouraging Scripture!

I love the pics of the little pigs in your previous post!!

Have a great week!

I feel like my life is slip sliding away sometimes. A great post...makes you stop and think.

I loved your pigs below. When we were growing up we always had pigs. I loved to feed them coal and hear them crunch it.

The warm weather we have been having has made me feel as if summer will never end! I know it will turn cold soon and the daylight is getting shorter every day. It is good to enjoy these wonderful autumn moments!

Ginny, your pictures reminded me of all the fun I had as a child. We would slide down the slopes sitting on a bunch of pine needles. I'm now wondering whether the pine needles helped at all;) It's really nice to see pictures from so far away that make us think about our own moments of joy from the past. Thank you for bringing back those memories.
