Trade Blankets

Dale Chihuly, the famous glass designer, has a wonderful collection of Indian Trade Blankets. He has also made his own, and woven glass threads in into them. Here are some of the blankets in his huge collection. They were even more gorgeous seeing them in person!

The American Indians used these blankets for almost everything. How they were worn, and how the designs met and overlapped were of great significance. They would take them to trading posts and trade them for goods. They even traded them for mass made blankets, which were much more inferior. They thought these were warmer and prettier.

“She wrapped him in a blanket and laid him in a manger, because there was no room in the hostel.”

This is a beautiful collection of these blankets which I admire. I like Chihuly's glass creations too, especially ones that are of sea creatures like jelly fish.

I didn't know about the blankets by Dave Chihuly but have admired his glass sculptures for several years now. They are beautiful, and colorful.

They are magnificent Ginny. Such a lot of work went into making these beautiful blankets. By the way, by accident I put on today's blog twice but the first one was not finished. Youo and elephand Child haad made a comment on it so I have deleted that post adn put your coment on the present one. There were just a few more shots of the ponoes adn of me feeding one of them.

wow, his love of color in glass is showing in the blankets. they are gorgeous! talk about brilliant color. seems we are still trading our hard earned money for junk, just like the first Americans traded their beautiful blankets for our junk.
