The Answer

Several of you guessed that this box is for depositing old flags that need to be destroyed. It sits right on a main highway.

I have no idea. It is good to have a place for depositing old flags.

It is unique that there is a common barrel for collecting obsolete flags ...., in my country there is no such.

Greetings from Indonesia.

I've seen these.

That's a great idea. Every town should have one of these so that flags can be disposed of properly

I would never in a million years have thought of that as I've never heard of such a thing as a special place to deposit old flags....

Good move as not to waste, maybe they recycle the old flags? LOL..

They have a receptacle like that at one of our local home improvement stores. The Boy Scouts come and get the flags that are left in it, and dispose of them properly. I don't think you can recycle an American flag; there are rules for its respectful disposition. I hate to see the flag disrespected in any way, and love to see it reverenced. Happy week to you. xoxo
