Crowded Real Estate

Here they come in the dusk, all headed for power lines and transformers.

Ever wonder why birds on power lines all face the same direction?

I copied this from various websites.

"Birds experience less wind resistance when they fly into the wind. The same goes for when they sit on power lines: they are all facing into the wind in order to reduce wind resistance. If they were instead facing the opposite direction, their feathers would be fluttering all over the place.  It's also easier to communicate."

Love this! Every time I see a bunch of birds like that hanging around, I think of the Alfred Hitchcock film, The Birds. I grew up about 25 miles from Bodega Bay. Disappointing, I never saw those Hitchcock birds there!

Great photos!

That is a great numbers of birds in one place. The facing in one direction makes sense. Dangerous to walk under the lines.

did not know this but it makes sense to me. I don't like walking with the wind in my face but it doesn't seem to bother Beau. these photos are amazing to me. that is a lot of birds and I wish for 10 dollars for every bird that was sitting there. LOL

W O W ! That is a lot of birds! We see the crows in parking lots often searching for food. We're careful in the yard as they are so big and our pups are so small. That is a fact I learned that is something new. Thank you.
