The Lights Of Covid

As the darkness and fear of the Covid virus continues to spread, people are being urged to put their Christmas lights up. It has kind of taken the internet by storm. To try and spread some cheer, and see some light at the end of a very dark tunnel. Here is our neighborhood, are there any in yours?

The Alley

My older followers may remember the pumpkin man a few blocks away. He grows giant pumpkins, and has won statewide awards for size. Here is an old photo of them.

We thought we would drive down the alley behind his house and see if any are growing now. But the alley itself had some interesting sights. Like this tricycle hanging from a clothesline.

This backyard had chickens. They were curious about us.

Until their tiny guard dogs came yapping up to the fence.

The people next door were growing corn in their yard.

And the people next to them had a big patch of wild sunflowers.

We finally arrived at the punpkin man's house at the end of the alley. The pumpkins were growing, and huge.

See the fan he has turned on this one?

Where Do Love Birds Go On The Weekend?

We went back to the abadoned building tonight, but no luck seeing any bats. But we DID see the same thing for the second night in a row. We have been told that the building is full of bats AND pigeons. And these two come onto the window ledge every evening, and STAY there! One is on the ledge, the other on a pipe under the ledge.
Upper right window on the bottom right ledge.

The one on top is constantly looking down at the other, like he is looking after her. Pigeons do not like to roost in trees; they prefer old abandoned buildings or bridges. But this ledge is so thin!

My mystery pictures from last night are bugs flying in the light from a lamppost. My camear took several snaps in a row, thus showing their paths. Anni guessed it!

Gone Batty

Looking for a sunset on the hill tonight, the clouds looked like this. Yikes!

No good sunset tonight for sure. But we met some people who told us about an old dilapadated building where lots of bats lived. They flew out every night to eat insects in the air. Wow, I had only seen this on T.V. And the old house was just down the street! It was suitably spooky.

You can see how run down the back is, with lots of broken windows and holes for bats to get inside. We waited and waited. Only ONE bat! What! But I am NOT giving up, I shall return.

I DID get some unusual photos, though. Can you guess what this is? I will show and tell on my next post.

End Of Summer Fling

We went to check out the Big Cat a couple days ago, and she was all dressed up for a summer fling.

I think she is going to the beach, because of her seashell bra.

And she reminds us all that safety comes before fashion, by wearing her mask. Stay safe!

Tuesday Evening

This evening we went up on the hill to watch the sunset.

Just after it set, we watched the Chimney Swifts circle and go down the tall chimney.

Then we drove to the drugstore to pick up some prescriptions. On the way there, the sky did this.

Next to us in the drive-thru, this dog was apparently picking up his master's drugs. He did not like my camera, and growled at me, giving me the evil eye the entire time.

On a balmy autumn night
We watch as the swifts eat while in flight
They chase the bugs up in the air
I love to just watch and stare
Coming back to earth, I feel heavy & slow
As I watch the sky in it's final glow
