Semis And Leaves

Come along with us on our journey over Afton Mountain on Rt. 64. The 18 wheeler will be your tour guide! Well, we couldn't shake him, so I decided to just include him in the pictures!  We just returned a few hours ago, and I was one happy girl to see such pretty trees. Guess it IS true, life is not about the destination, but it's about the journey!

Harvest Decor

Well, my blog friends have started posting their Fall decorations, so I guess it's time for me to do the same. Some of these I made, and some I bought. This last picture of the wreath; I made from the hand prints of our granddaughter when she was about two. I also made one for spring in pastel Easter colors.

"How can we honor our God with our lives, The God who gives rain in both spring and autumn and maintains the rhythm of the seasons, Who sets aside time each year for harvest and keeps everything running smoothly for us."

Wind Him Up!

"A black cat crossing your path signifies that the animal is going somewhere."
Groucho Marx

Here is a 38 second sneak peek video at what Phil will be wearing to a Halloween party. A wind-up Groucho face. To make it move, you have to wind up the nose, which Ella loves doing! Not to be outdone, I had him take this picture of me with a frame of a Groucho face in front of me, thanks to the frame setting on my cell phone.

If I Could Turn Back Time

Time is what prevents everything from happening at once.  ~John Archibald Wheeler

You must have been warned against letting the golden hours slip by; but some of them are golden only because we let them slip by.  ~James Matthew Barrie

I just couldn't resist naming today's post after the Cher song! Remember all that stuff I said yesterday about time going by so fast that I lose it? Well,  today I found that I can actually buy time!! And it comes in some real nifty shapes and colors, too. Now I can set the hands to whatever I want and I will always have time at my disposal, no more lost time! O.K. seriously, I didn't buy any of these but they were fun to look at. I just had to throw in my two favorites from an earlier post: the grater and steak knife clock and the Whatever clock.

"He has made everything beautiful in it's time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end."
Ecclesiastes 3:11

Still The Moon

"The lark's on the wing;
The snail's on the thorn;
God's in his heaven-
all's right with the world!
Robert Browning

Time has been out of control for me for a long time. It just speeds by at a scary pace. A small example is our water heater. It has sprung a leak and we need a new one. I had been referring to it as the new water heater, because I believe it to be only about eight years old. No, the repair man said we put it in over twenty years ago, ouch!!!! Does this happen to any of you? So Friday afternoon found me leaving the Cancer Center, still not believing it had been seven years since my friend had first gotten cancer. Not believing that Phil is having another stress test this Tuesday. The new yogurt shop was small consolation. But on the way home I chanced to look up, and this is what I saw. There was still the moon, a constant, not seeming to be subject to time. God was still in heaven and in control.

"I look up at your macro-skies, dark and enormous, your handmade sky-jewelry, moon and stars mounted in their settings. Then I look at my micro-self and wonder, why do you bother with us? Why take a second look our way?"
Psalm 8:3    The Message

Sweet Frog

After leaving the Cancer Center, we happened to pass a brand new store, Sweet Frog. And this was the grand opening!! Come with me on a tour!! You walk in and grab the size cup you want. Then you go to this wall full of built in frozen yogurt machines in dozens of flavors, like red velvet and caramel. You can put any flavor or combinations of flavors in your bowl. Then on to the toppings, there are dozens of fruits and candies. Help yourself to top your yogurt. Do you see that one topping I snapped? It is called Mochi, I never heard of it before. It is a sweetened sugared rice cake. Tastes like a real soft gumdrop. Then the clerk weighs your cup and you pay.  Entirely self serve!! Isn't the little kids corner cute in the last picture?  Oh, and the name. Phil asked them if they had any frozen frog legs, he loves to tease! But the name stands for Fully Rely On God! Time for my Monday vacation, I will see you on Tuesday and show you the end of this busy day.

"You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you are my God, my fortress, my God on whom I can rely."

Emily And Katie

Robotic electric revolving door
Phil thinking he looks girly in my girlfriend's reading glasses
The view of the old hospital from the window
Infusion pump. See the meters on each side? They stop the hose from getting air bubbles.
T.V. on an adjustable arm
 Phil trying his hand at the lobby piano

Welcome to the Emily Couric Cancer Center, won't you come in with me and have a look around?  Emily Couric was our state senator and the sister of Katie Couric, you can see the resemblance in her picture. She lost her battle with cancer ten years ago, and Katie's dream of opening a modern cancer facility in her sister's name finally became a reality this April. Katie herself came here to dedicate it. The whole building is electronically controlled, this revolving door starts going when you step in and stops when you step out. We went to sit with my best friend while she was having chemo. Her cancer has returned after seven years. Having been through cancer with my husband, my mom, and now my friend, I have seen it ruin something that you and I take for granted every day. That is the certainty of a future. The hesitation to make plans. The lump in the throat awaiting each test result. So here are my words for today:

"This is the day the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it."
Psalm 118:24

Think Pink!

 Washington D.C. just had it's Cherry Blossom Festival. I always try to post it every year, from our T.V., of course. There was so much ...
