BEEP BEEP!

Our granddaughter's elementary school just put a new statue out front. Do you recognize him? It is the Road Runner! This used to be one of my favorite cartoons. Do you remember him? What was your favorite cartoon?

Road Runner, I am curious,
      You've got me wondering why
You're always in a foot race,
      I've never seen you fly.
You run along the yucca ridge,
      And across the desert floor,
You run and keep on running,
And then you run some more...

Last Night

Yesterday evening we went out in hopes of a last chance to snap the Full Harvest Moon. Alas, it was too cloudy. But we saw something even better. It started with a wide yellow band.

Then the birds came out. Perhaps Chimney Swifts, circling round and round the chimneys.

The color quickly changed from yellow to pink and blue.

On the way home, one quick glance in the rear view mirror.

Harvest Sun

Tonight is the full Harvest Moon. But the sky is covered with clouds from one end to the other. And thick fog on the mountain. What to do? Show you an orange Harvest sun, which I had snapped previously.

Softly drops the crimson sun:
Softly down from overhead,
Drop the bell-notes, one by one,
Melting in the melting red....

Let's Do Lunch!

Every year around Grandparents Day, the local elementary schools invite the grandparents to have lunch with the kids. And every year I post about it! So yesterday we picked up some special desserts for the girls on the way to the school.

Yes, it's lots of sugar, but it's only once a year.
We went into the school and picked up our passes. We were having lunch with the two youngest separately, one after the other.

The cafeteria was decorated with pretty flowers.

Jazz loved the flowers, too.

Here I am with each of the girls.

Here is Phil & the girls.

And here are Phil and I!

Barn Graveyard

We happened to pass these mama and baby barns. Not only that, but they seem to have their own graveyard. Maybe for cows and sheep, who knows?

It's A Gas!

Awhile back, we came across this colorful and wild artwork. Can you guess what kind of thing it was painted on?

It was on a Sheetz gas truck! In the local Sheetz parking lot.

On the back of the truck, it shows the artist who painted it. He is a big Sheetz fan. I am now wondering if there are other trucks painted by other artists. I am keeping my eyes peeled!

Sunday Swarms

We came out of the grocery store at just the right time to see hundreds of birds wheeling in the sky at sunset. Maybe even thousands. It was an amazing sight, and I should have videoed it. Groups were going in opposite directions. I don't now how they kept from colliding into each other.

And finally, all was still.

When Autumn birds in flocks
Fly southward, back we turn the Clocks,
And so regain a lovely thing—
      That missing hour
      We lost last Spring.

~Phyllis McGinley,
