Little Weepers

After the Big Weeping Cherries, I thought I would show you some baby ones. They are native to Japan, where they are held in very high esteem. During world War ll, their blossoms were used to motivate the Japanese people. Japanese pilots would paint them on the sides of their planes before going on a suicide mission, and sometimes even take the branches with them. They symbolized the fleeting intensity of life. The falling cherry petals came to represent the sacrifice of the Japanese youth to honor the emperor.

“I’m creating new heavens and a new earth. All the earlier troubles, chaos, and pain are things of the past, to be forgotten. Look ahead with joy... I’ll take joy in Jerusalem, take delight in my people: No more sounds of weeping in the city, no cries of anguish…”
Isaiah 65

These are even more beautiful than the big ones if that is possible. I didn't know the background of these little trees, thanks for sharing Ginny.

Beautiful! And very interesting. I didn't know that. I've always wanted to catch the cherry blossoms in DC but never have yet.

Lovely baby weeping cherries! We Japanese do treat cherry blossoms as very special tree. I love them when in full blossom but love even more when they fall. I love their fragile beauty.
