Welcome To The Thunderegg!

You are reading that right, not the Thunder Dome, but my Thunderegg! And here it is! I am a rock collector and have only just acquired it. You see how lumpy and ordinary the outside looks?
But when you open it up. it is just beautiful. Filled with brilliant color!

Thundereggs are kind of similar to geodes, but are solid inside and are not formed the same way. No one knows knows for sure how they are formed, except that they are a product of volcanic lava flow, and are found in volcanic beds. Different ones have different materials inside like opal, quartz, and jasper. They are the state rock of Oregon, where you can still find most of them. According to Native American legend, when the thunder gods got mad at each other, they stood on mountaintops and threw weapons at each other. The weapons were Thunderbird eggs they had stolen from the nests. Hence the name Thunder Egg. Maybe some time I will tell you about the Thunderbird. But you never know what surprises lay inside something so ordinary on the outside.

“God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart.”

1 Samuel 16

I've never seen a thunderegg before. That's so pretty.
How do you open it? Does the outside sort of peel off or do you have to break it in half

Wow it is the real natural color? Looks very beautiful and amazing!
Can you open it up easily or do you have to break it?

I haven't heard of the Thundereggs before! Very interesting and it reminds me of that old saying that you can't judge a book by it's cover. Who would ever guess that it was so pretty under that rough looking exterior!

This is new for me. I didn't realize you collected rocks - neat hobby! My little Reid collects rocks too. He would think your thunderegg was the coolest!

You asked about how I work - I work in the evenings after Paul gets off work. It's tiring and we don't get to see each other much, but it is the best we can do for now.

What an amazing item to have.

I have all kinds of questions! What is the blue inside? Did you find it?

I have many round rocks but I'm not brave enough to look inside. I fear I will destroy the beauty I can hold in the search for what may or may not be inside.

This certainly is a wonderful treasure to have.

Oh Ginny, that is a beautiful Thunder Egg. I have a couple that came from Oregon but the colors are duller. Where did yours come from?

When I lived in GA I worked for awhile at a 4-H camp, the mascot was a Thunderbird.

Hi Ginny It's a bit like, "don't judge a book by its cover". The inside is very beautiful. Have a wonderful weekend.

Amazing. You sure can't tell a book by it's cover, can you? I'm so glad God judges the inside - my outside is getting a bit shabby :)
