House Floats

Mardi Gras was cancelled due to covid. It puts one billion dollars into Louisiana economy every year. So they decided to turn their houses into floats!! A safe and genius way to celebrate. Some of these photos are from the web, and some I snapped from the T.V. news. So, come along to the Mardi Gras with me, and lets look at so many House Floats!! Do you have a favorite?

“What happens on the float stays on the float.”

Leave a little sparkle wherever you go.

The official colors of Mardi Gras are purple, gold, and green.

By law, everyone on a New Orleans Mardi Gras parade float must wear a mask. Seriously!

These are great! I heard they were doing this but hadn't seen photos. It would be impossible to pick a favorite, they are all just amazing!

WOW! That's the only word that comes to mind. To be quite honest, most of Mardi Gras consists of immoral & illicit behavior... all done in the name of "the day before Lent starts". I've always thought it was a slap in God's face, as is "Fat Tuesday"... but what do I know??!!! Pretty pictures though and if this is what people need to do to cope with the pandemic, then... that's a good thing, I guess. ~Andrea-the old fuddy duddy :-) xoxo

I think the Mardi Gras lifestyle is much more dangerous than Covid could ever hope to be, but I guess no one wants to talk about gluttony, drunkenness, immorality, and all the rest, as being a peril to life and limb anymore -- or did they ever? Anyway, my favorite is the one where they released the Kraken. xoxo

Thanks for sharing these float houses with us. I've read about them, but haven't seen many. These houses are as elaborate as the parade floats would be.

How clever are those? It's too bad they had to cancel Mardi Gras but at least they were able to do something! We have a ice festival in a park in my town every January. Last year it was too warm and all the ice sculptures melted! This year it's cold but they don't want a lot of people gathering in the park so the sculptures are displayed up and down the main streets! It drew a crowd but they were able to social distance while enjoying the sculptures!

I am not much into that celebration - but I do enjoy the scenery!

Fascinating art and clever repurposing of the traditional parade.
Love the quote about the masks and N.O. law.
