Day Of The Dead

I will not be visiting blogs today, as we will be gone all day.

We were in Target today, and passed this endcap by the checkout. Air plants in different Halloween containers. I thought they were so cute and colorful, but a bit grisly for me! I did not buy any, but they were well done.

"Your dead will live; Their corpses will rise. You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy, For your dew is as the dew of the dawn, And the earth will give birth to the departed spirits."

I've never cared much for Day of the dead themed items. Some of them are colorful though

I remember when Jess was getting married, they had a bride in this collection, and I had to get it for her. Yes, these figurines are always bright and colorful. Isn't Target the best? I miss shopping there. Have a nice day off, Ginny.

**just wanted to answer your question about the castle Nel stayed in.....
It was Summer when she went, so it was nice and cool, but she heard from a couple of her colleagues who work in the castle that it gets pretty drafty in the winter.

Growing up in San Francisco is where I first learned of the day of the dead celebrations. Our neighbor was Mexican and Aztec and observed. More recent when my husband and I were first married we rented a apartment in a Hispanic community and just down the road was a old cemetery. They would leave food and the police had to guard it due to others who wanted to steal the food. It’s very festive but not part of my heritage so we don’t observe. It’s become so commercial now - it never used to be.

I refer the Pagan Samhain, when they believe that the veil between the worlds is very thin, and spirits of the dead, might visit the living.

I don't believe any of this, but I like this Samhain/Halloween, because it is the celebration of the End of the Growing Season. Final Harvest.

It is a cultural tradition. I didn't grow up with Halloween for instance, it just wasn't celebrated when I was a child. Now more so over there, I think. But I don't enjoy Halloween to this day, and don't know much about the Day of the Dead. Hubby is the same but our son does. I used to bake him Halloween cookiesl when he was a kid. We also give out candy on the 31st and enjoy the little ones in their costumes, so I'm not a true bah-humbug ;)
