All the rain we have had has made a lot of mushrooms pop up. These were in our next-door neighbor's yard. They started out normally.
As time went on, they began to bulge in various places and look lopsided.
And then I saw THIS! Do you see it? There is a hole in the large one, and the smaller one had grown right through it! For a better look, it is also in my header.

I love it! And I've never seen mushrooms grow like that.
Well isn't that something with the last picture. There's a lesson to be learned there. When obstacles get in your way just grow through them.
great to know the reasoning of why they are shaped like an umbrella. These are very interesting shapes. Do you like to eat mushrooms? I love them in salads, and sautéed. Of course, I don't think I would ever go foraging in the forest for them because I don't know enough about them to know if they are good or dangerous.
They are so interesting! Funny how they change shape.
Love the quote!
Ginny you are freaking amazing with your catches - only you could see that. Don't eat them tho - you'd be eating for the last time.
I've always thought mushrooms were such strange looking fungus. But you know, I love cooked mushrooms with a butter sauce. I know there are some poisonous mushrooms out there too, be careful where you step. ; )
Have a lovely weekend, Ginny.

Same thing around here. Mushrooms are popping up all over the place.
Great photos Ginny! Fascinating to see the one in your header, and in your last photo. Your quote is a good one. I always think of the first settlers and what they went through to discover edibles.
I greatly appreciate that warning from Terry Pratchett. I just stay away from the mushrooms. Great photos!
Oh goodness, that "only edible once" quote is hysterical! You won't be repeating that performance, hahaha! That is remarkable, the way that one grew into the other. Such odd little things they are! xoxo
That last photo is spectacular. What a treasure!!
Mushrooms are fascinating. You took great photos Ginny!
We did not have mushrooms in our yard, but there has sure been a lot of fairy rings this year. I just love seeing them. Or mushrooms of any kind for that matter.
Love that quote. It gave me a good chuckle.
Interesting pictures--especially the second one from the top and the last one with one mushroom growing through a hole in another one. Well spotted.
