Day Of the Dead (Dia De Los Muertos) is a Mexican holiday where people's dead relatives are honored, revered, and remembered. Families gather to decorate the graves and have parades. It is usually around November 1st and 2nd. The stores are full of decorations for it. I saw this in a drug store.
I have bought a couple things in the last few years to put out. This year featured a bat and a cat.
"On signal from that
trumpet from heaven, the dead will be up and out of their graves, beyond the
reach of death, never to die again. At the same moment and in the same way,
we’ll all be changed. In the resurrection scheme of things, this has to happen:
everything perishable taken off the shelves and replaced by the imperishable,
this mortal replaced by the immortal. Then the saying will come true:
Death swallowed by
triumphant Life!

I remember as a child, in San Francisco our Mexican neighbors would bring food to the cemetery - the deceased’s favorites. She and her relatives would cook for days. She would bring over a huge pan of homemade tamales for our family. I don’t remember all the decorations they have now. I suspect it’s been commercialized like every other holiday.
The last picture is most mesmerising. Halloween is really an interesting festival
I love the flowers and the idea of remembering the dead, but skeletons are too spooky for me.
I like the last sentence, Oh, Death, who is afraid of you now? great post and cute cat and bat. this made me think of my uncle when my dad died. he was really upset because I had Daddy cremated and then took the urn to Savannah to bury him beside mother. He called to tell me how upset he was and said but how will her rise since he is burned to ashes. I said to him. Delbert, what about the people who are blown to bits by bombs and burned and die in the towers? God will give them a new body, the old body is done and gone. He said I had not thought about that...
I just love that bat! and the verses are fitting.
I've always known this holiday, cause I have a friend of Mexican heritage. That orange cat is so cute and colorful. When Jess was getting married at the time, I came across a Day of the Dead bride, and bought it. Couldn't resist. They really do have lots of colors swirling around in this holiday, don't they? The first picture of them playing music is delightful. Your new bat is really cute.

**Francesca did good with the ear piercing. It's pretty simple and quick now, one loud pop, and it's done. How wonderful that you went with your granddaughter when she got her ears pierced. What a fond memory for you.
Boy they have a lot there for celebration - I have only heard of it the last couple of years.
