Go Figure

Last Sunday, we went to the Christmas show of a local figure skating club. All the young people were showing off what they had learned, and some regional winners even skated. Figure skating is the only sport that I really like. My husband is a long time tennis player, with many trophies, and I do like tennis, but just can't understand the weird scoring system. I had never seen figure skating up close before, and what struck me was the speed! Watching it on T.V. with the cameras following, you just can't get an idea of the incredible speeds they reach. What I would call breakneck. It's so fast that it takes your breath away! These are just a few of my pictures; you can see I even predicted a fall! The rink was so frigid that my hands were numb and shaking from the cold, so it's amazing these pictures were not blurred. Speaking of being cold, in the very early Greek athletic games, the athletes competed naked. This offended many Jews, as well it might! So when some people complain about the tight and skimpy clothes of figure skaters, they need to be glad they aren't living in ancient Greece!

"The breath of God produces ice, and the broad waters become frozen. He loads the clouds with moisture, He scatters His lightening through them. At His direction they swirl around over the face of the whole earth to do whatever He commands them." Job 37:10

It is an amazing sport, I have watched practices in Alaska. In fact the infamous Tanya Harding was at one of the sessions, it is incredibly fast.

The ancient Greek athletes were into perfection of the body and got a little carried away. The way figure skaters move they can't have anything to get in their way I suppose.
