Easy

Here is the answer to yesterday's mystery picture. An old fashioned wringer washing machine. Karin was my first guesser with the right answer, followed by Bonnie, Sandra, Stephanie V., and Neal. We had one of these in the basement when I was growing up, and what a deal! These must be the original wringers, I wonder how many articles of clothing were actually run through them to get them to this point? But what just cracked me up was the name of this brand, which is plastered all over it: EASY. Well, I guess it's all in your perspective. It was easier than a tub, a cake of lye soap, and a washboard. Here's is a way of life that is really easy. Accepting and living under grace instead of the law.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28,30

It seems to me that when new the wringer rollers would be much smoother. These look aged and wrinkled - like me,lol! My parents still have one of those washing machines and I helped with the laundry quite often. My favorite part of doing laundry this way was hanging it outside! Sleeping on fresh air and sun dried sheets and pillowcases was simply heavenly! While we lived in KY during hubby's sabbatical year, I got to hang our laundry outside! I was happy as a lark! Oh, the memories! Thanks Ginny!

when I first came to New Zealand, I shared a flat with 4 others. we had to use this, and there is plenty of stories about :fights" I must go to a junk yard or second hand store to see if I can find one and write my story.

I managed to upload Emily's song. You can listen to it. You can't tell that Emily is a half Chinese.

Even though my grandmother had one of these when I was little I had no idea. I remembered the rollers being smooth but that was a really long time ago.

I can't imagine having to laundry this way nowadays, it would take forever.

Exactly. My mother thought she had died and gone to heaven when she got a wringer washer and gave up that washboard.

I didn't even try to guess yesterday because I had no idea. Never seen anything quite like this one, not even when our textile museum had their laundry day displaying all sorts of old things last spring.

Well I could sure not guess that!! thae washing machine looks quite ancient to me.. Looks more like an equipment to be used in the farms!!
The quote is so nice..thanks for sharing that with all of us!!

I have replied to your query about ghat on my blog.. and since you loved that post, I am sure you will love this one too!!

I wish I had one of those!

easier than washing them in the crick and hanging them on a bush. love the name of it. we had one, but it was not EASY, it was lots of WORK, and in the winter out on the porch, my hands almost froze off. my job was catching them as they came out of the wringer as mother fed them in the wringer, they went in a tub of icy cold water, and then she put them through a second time and they went in a second tub of icy water, then sweet little sandra had to hang them with clothes pins, wait for them to dry/freeze and take them in and sprinkle with the coke bottle sprinlker and wad them up and put in a basket to be ironed. YIKES you have ruined my day with all the fond memories. SMILE

Would never have guessed it --though several people did. My mother had one of those --in our basement and "Wash Day" was every Monday. She didn't have dryer --so the clothes were all hung out on the lines. Tuesday was "Iron Day"... She was a busy lady.

Hope you are having a good day. We have RAIN this morning.. Yeah!!!!!

I'm reading posts and watching videos about 9/11... Such a sad day in our history.

God Bless YOU and God Bless America,
Hugs,
Betsy

My grandma had a wringer like this but between two big tubs to go back and forth between water and soap. How did they ever get laundry for a family of seven done? Oh yes... with much difficulty. And then she hung it on the line and the sheets were stiff but smelled heavenly and you could probably stand the overalls of the boys up in a corner... that stiff!

Great quote Ginny! Loved it. Looking for ways to quote it on Sunday. ☺☺☺

I should never publicly admit this, but the first two years I was married I used a monster similar to this one. I also know what a clothes pin and clothes line are :-). I hope you are having a great day. Blessings...Mary

I remember well my mother's old wringer washer.I have done many a load of laundry with it.Yes,and then hung it on the line to dry.It was more work than out automatic washers of today.Thankfully being washed by the blood of Jesus is no work at all.
Blessings,Ruth

I guess having done the washing with one of these machines gives some of us an advantage. I don't remember that ours made any 'easy' claims, though. When I was a girl helping my mother with the laundry my 'laundry pleasures' were wringing the clothes and ironing. Must be something that says about my personality but I'm not sure what. Thanks for the trip back to washday memories.

I thought it was some sort of wringer. That was fun.

Ok..this is sensible- I figured you and Sandra just needed a slap..Sandra does need one! (Lol)
Boy- easy is truly one's perspective! Amazing..I catch myself murmuring when my downloads are slow-yet I'm always reminded..taken aback with the incredible technology at our disposal!! Life is much easier coming to Christ- but many would rather wring their hands? Grin:)))

My Mom had a wringer washer from Kenmore when I was growing up. It wasn't this old looking but every bit of clothes went through the wringer before it went out on the clothes line to dry.
I sure didn't get the mystery picture though. Good contest.

I should have guessed it. My mother had a similar washing machine when I was a child.

My mother had a Maytag wringer. My sisters and I were always told horror stories of little children who got too close and had limbs mangled!! Of course, it was to keep us away and it worked. When she got her first automatic washer, she hated it and sent it back. She thought the wringer type got clothes cleaner. We've come a long way!!

Best,
Bonnie

I love what time does to certain words. In today's vernacular, "easy" has a totally different, and somewhat, um, edgier connotation than it did when I was a munchkin.

That's one of the reasons I love about pursuing a career based on the language arts. It's always evolving, and you can't close your eyes to it even for a second.
