Walk This Way

"Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God." Isaiah 50:10

Many people in our area have taken to lining their walkways with spooky things for the Halloween season. Some are quite creative. But at my age, I already have enough scares, and don't need any more. The only thing on my walkway will be my cane as I try to navigate it without tripping, and that's a scary enough sight!

"I will guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble. ...Do not set foot on the path of the wicked...Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way. Proverbs 4

You are right about not being too near to the big bird. I didn't tell on the post that I was hiding behind the tram.

Hi Ginny..I used to enjoy this time- especially when I was young..I was oblivious too for the most part- as far as spiritual danger..but can understand how others find it fun..then all the sweets! Nice photos from your neck of the woods-
"..When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble" so true!

I like this trend, Ginny. Don is Christmas lights only guy but many of our neighbors are becoming very elaborate. I think I will drive around tomorrow and see what I can find around town and take photos.

I like your post, Ginny. Have to say I never 'understood' the American Halloween traditions (like the scary decorations and trick-or-treat). In later years more of that have got blended into our traditions too. Our customs traditionally are a lot more solemn and centered on All Saints Day and graveyard decorations. Whichever kind of 'celebration', this was never my favourite time of year or holiday.

Ginny, when is Halloween actually? Tricks or treats? :) it must be pretty interesting to see all these lined up along the row of houses.. something like our lantern festival over here ..

It's amazing the Halloween decorations we've seen around here. One house had a 6 foot spider hung on the front porch with lots of webbing.

Wow...these are a sight! So elaborate! Thanks for the photos. Gives us an insight into the kinds of decorations people use during this time of the year.

About your comment on my blog, I'd love to share more pictures later. Especially for you!

Have a great day, Ginny!

You found some great decorations around the neighborhood Ginny. The last one looks pretty elaborate. Since we don't have any small children I don't decorate except for a pumpkin or two. I do enjoy seeing all the neighborhood kids in their costumes.

We are seeing a lot of Halloween decorated yards too. I especially enjoy the pumpkins, mums and scarecrows.

I love the Halloween decorations. I've seen very few around here, but then my town seems to suffer from a strong dose of apathy when it comes to most anything.

You know, Ginny, I don't like the "spooky" emphasis placed on this time of year. I think maybe it's because I saw enough real witchcraft in the missions field. Too, there is such waste here what with the exhorbitant amount of dollars and time spent on decorations for it. Of course there are some that have "pumpkin parties" and "hallowed evenings" and such like that cater to fun and family. Nothing wrong with that.

Well your neighborhood looks good. Not every one has to do the same thing or feel the same way - choice is what life is all aboutr.

Glad God has his own light for us - don't you?

The Scripture you included today works especially well for the topic. You are great about doing that tie-in. Have a wonderful non-spooky Thursday!

I used to enjoy making costumes for my children when they were small, and of course we did the trick or treat thing. . .but they are 19 and 27 and now my idea of Halloween is to turn off the porch light and go upstairs to watch old old spooky movie. . .Carnival of Souls is on our short list this year. . .Let the parents of young-uns hand out candy and make scary displays on the lawn, I say.

As to decorating, all the shots you posted are really nice and tasteful. I don't mind those little graveyards with punny verses on them, but some of our local ones are way over the top, with orange lights and effigies of crazed movie characters rising from the yard. . .

A lot of people here decorate the same way along with those tacky blow up yard balloons. Fortunately, most are up in the front of the neighborhood. We have mostly older kids here and the little ones don't usually get this far. I try to have treats for any who show up but don't go crazy. As the years have passed I become less and less thrilled with Halloween.

I love to see the children in costumes at this time of year. I don't like all the scary things.

I don't like the scary, spooky things either, Ginny! Pumpkins, fall flowers, scarecrows all arranged on a bale of hay are more my style! We've started a trunk- or-treat time for our kids at church on Wed. nights. We all put treats in our car trunks and line our cars up on each side of the parking lot. After the kids' church activities are over, they walk past each car, where we adults are standing, and receive treats from us. It's a safe, fun alternative to trick-or-treating.

I should have put "the Wed. night closest to Halloween" instead of "Wed. nights."

Your header is so pretty. I would be happy on a farm. I need to find a rich rancher. Or farmer. Whichever. Photos are neat. I feel very Halloweenish.

Halloween is not my most favorite time of the year. In fact it doesn't even make my top 10 list :-(

Hi! Thanks for commenting on my blog today! I was getting worried that it was not showing :)
Ariel is deaf and she won't wake up in the morning without a nudge. All the noise I make, she just sleeps thru it!
Thanks again my friend!
I like all your walkways. I never decorated my sidewalk, my luck someone would trip then sue me!

Ginny you make me laugh. I loved this part "But at my age, I already have enough scares, and don't need any more. The only thing on my walkway will be my cane as I try to navigate it without tripping, and that's a scary enough sight!"

Stay safe as you navigate.

I always used cheerful Halloween decorations when my children were young. Now I don't use many except for a lighted jack o' lantern. We get hundreds of children on my block for "trick or treat" ..I usually run out of candy!

I agree with you - I'll stick to nice pumpkins and fall leaves!!

Halloween is much bigger in your area than it is here. When I lived in Ohio there were a lot of Halloween decorations put up, but here in the Glade most of the decorations are of the harvest. That's fine with me -- the nightly news is scary enough!!

I see a lot of Halloween decorations on my way to work too. I just don't have the time to take photos. I used to do that years ago. I am so jealous of you.
