When We Went Knocking

Recently, Phil and I were driving along Route 11, and I spotted something interesting in the front yard of a little house. We turned the car around and went back. It was this rooster, with a wind vane for a tail. I was quite enchanted and thought it was fun and hilarious. Phil went up to their front door and knocked, to ask where they got it. We are not shy about knocking on doors for any reason, to ask what kind of flowers they are growing, what shade of paint their house is, where they got their bird feeders....you get the idea. When our son was a teenager, we absolutely mortified him when we did this, and he would slink down on the floor of the car, hoping no one would see him!! Anyway, the lady at the door said her husband got this rooster at a yard sale and she hated it! She called her husband and asked him if she could sell it to us. Ten dollars and a few minutes later, we drove away with Roscoe in the back seat! All from knocking.

"Here's what I'm saying:
   Ask and you'll get;
   Seek and you'll find;
   Knock and the door will open.
"Don't bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need. This is not a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we're in."

Omigosh, Ginny. You and Phil are a total riot and it really pays off in a big way. Roscoe is totally cool and will very much appreciate being appreciated.

Well, it never hurts to ask, or knock. Roscoe is quite a find and I'm sure he is going to love his new home. I agree with Annie that he is totally cool.

That is hilarious! Glad you got a nice rooster out of it.

No knocking for me ;-)

HI Ginny! I love Roscoe! He must make you smile everyday. I think it's very cool that you guys just go right up and ask. My style is to drive slowly back and forth and gawk like a stalker. In the end, it probably makes the homeowner nervous, and I never get any information. Your way is better.

I've been catching up on you previous blogs. Love the gigantic glasses, and I'm so sad that I missed seeing the pink piano! I'll bet that was a sight to see!

Oh my gosh....I just came from a blog and read about his post on losing his mother and her funeral...all to the point of bawling. Then, I come here to pay you a visit, and get a joyful fun post about those embarrassing knocks on doors of strangers------and you come up with a rooster weather vane in your back seat!!!

I love it!! And thanks, Ginny, for getting me out of my previous blog visit funk. You made my day.

Just when I think I "know" you and Phil, another interesting thing pops up!! I wonder if another blogger might have taken a photo of you, Phil and the rooster (sitting in the back seat I assume) driving up Rt. 11. I'm shaking with laughter.

Best,
Bonnie

LOL! I love this story! I can just 'see' your son slinking down in the back seat (we did a thing or two that caused some slinking, too).

Roscoe is quite handsome! I'm glad he has found a home with someone who appreciates him! blessings ~ tanna

OH NO YOU DIDN'T!!! i am ROFL really i am, so are the photos in your yard at your house? you really did buy the rooster? did you name it Chicken Little, even though it is Chicken BIG... i can't stop laughing that you went up to the door and the lady sold it to you. you must be kin to my mother, she would have killed to have the rooster, and i am with the lady that sold it to you. i also would be hiding in the floor boards. we have now found one thing we are not alike in. i have never knocked on a strangers door for anything. i agree with Annie, you are a riot and so is this post.

I think I'd go hiding too, I'm with Sandra on this one ;) I'd love to take a photo of it but not buy it. What's it made of, fabric? I'm guessing your "girls" probably love it though - am I right?

I like the photo in your header:) I like the verse also, but sometimes we ask and it is not God's will. I would love for the Lord to heal me physically of the pain in which we are searching for an answer. I also prayed the Lord would heal my mom of ALS, and it was not His will. He knows what is best for us.....And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose:)

This gave me the gift of laughter this a.m. The teenaged mortification, the disgruntled wife and of course my mental image of you and Phil happily transporting Roscoe to his new home.

I for one got your $10 worth and then some. The verse was welcomed lagniappe!

That is so funny. I can just imagine your sun slinking down in the back seat (a teenagers nightmare) I wonder if he will ever do something like this to embarrass his own kids...lol
I love that you stopped and asked and it's so cool that they sold it to you. It is quite unique

Good way to meet new folks and make a contact! Can't hurt to ask - if the answer is no, nothing lost! That's a great looking rooster - if one loves that sort of stuff. I wouldn't know where to put him! Blessings!

Hi Ginny, That is cool! I like all kinds of whirly gigs, streamers, flags, kites and so forth. Great to see the results of a knock on a friendly door. Have a great day tomorrow!

HAHA! Ginny that is so funny!! Gary will knock on doors too... not me (yikes!)
$10? I would've given Roscoe to you if it were mine..
So do you have him guarding your home?
You need to change your blog title to the Adventures of Ginny and Phil... lol. LOVED THIS!

This is sooo great! I don't normally knock on doors, but I could be talked into it. So glad it worked out for everyone! Is that Roscoe and hubby at home or at the people's house? Love it! I asked my husband if he would do this for me and he said yes. :) Your life is never boring!

I did something similar and came home with a beautiful flower cart that now sits in my Sweet Memories garden!
