Immortal

The very first trees to bloom around here in the spring are the Bradford Pear Trees. If the forsythia and redbud shout with color and joy, then the pear trees whisper with elegance and understatement. There are over 3,000 different varieties of pears, and before there was tobacco in Europe, people smoked pear leaves! Pear wood is used to make furniture and other things, it does not warp. And the Chinese consider the pear to be a symbol of immortality, the destruction of a pear tree symbolizing untimely death. Think you are not immortal? Think again.

“In the resurrection scheme of things, this has to happen: everything perishable taken off the shelves and replaced by the imperishable, this mortal replaced by the immortal. Then the saying will come true: Death swallowed by triumphant Life! Who got the last word, oh, Death? Oh, Death, who's afraid of you now? It was sin that made death so frightening and law-code guilt that gave sin its leverage, its destructive power. But now in a single victorious stroke of Life, all three—sin, guilt, death—are gone, the gift of our Master, Jesus Christ. Thank God!”
1 Corinthians 15

"The grass withers, the flower fades, the Word of God remains forever" - we don't have to worry about being immortal if we know the One who is! Amazing photos, amazing grace!

Oh my gosh....even your background for your blog template is adorned with the same beauty!!!!

The white, and purity of the blossoms are perfect for this week....Easter....and yet some of the gorgeous photos you've shared makes some of the trees look like heavily covered in frost.

This looks amazing. I'm afraid the forecast here for Good Friday is we might have white trees for quite different reason (snow).

Your photos today are simply breathtaking!! We don't see many Bradford Pears around here because it's usually very windy in the spring and they are susceptible to breaking off. It has been awhile since I was in Virginia so haven't seen them in all their glory for too long.

Best,
Bonnie

I thought I had died and gone to heaven, when your post came up. One of the most gorgeous sights ever. I had one of these trees, but it never made it. To answer your question, my husband I traveled a lot before his health got bad. Yes, I have been to all those places. I live at the last one.

My jaw dropped and I can't seem to close my mouth! Such beauty - pristine perfection! The fragrance must be heady! I had never heard of people smoking pear leaves! Wonder if it has the same effect as tobacco, but I'm not volunteering to find out.
Have a Happy Easter!!
