“Live a happy life! Keep your eyes open for God, watch for his works; be alert for signs of his presence. Remember the world of wonders he has made, his miracles, and the verdicts he's rendered…”
Psalm 105
I thought I had heard most everything, but what I read in the paper today proved me wrong. In fact, it made my mouth drop open. I took all these pictures from The Washington Post. We all know how they are always telling us things we like are bad for us, but how about being happy? Turns out it is bad to be happy! That's right! They say that too much cheerfulness makes one gullible, selfish, and less successful, and that's just the beginning. Cheerful people are easier to deceive, and cannot detect lies as well as sad people. They also tend to make snap judgements. Sad people are more attentive to details and more content to be where they are. Yale University compares happiness to food, if you have too much, it isn't good. So all you unhappy people out there, you just MAY be on to something, that should make you cheer up - no, wait, better not....
“Sorrow is better than laughter,
For when a face is sad a heart may be happy.“
For when a face is sad a heart may be happy.“
Ecclesiastes 7

Whatsoever state I'm in - therewith to be content - knowing that God is in control - of the joyful times, the sad times, the blah times, - that's the key I think. We're human - we'll have all those times and we shouldn't beat ourselves up. To see the blessings from God even in times of sorrow is very rewarding. You find the coolest things and the best fitting Scriptures for it! They are short and to the point and stick with a person! God bless!
This is an interesting post, Ginny! I don't agree with the WashPost. I haven't seen many sad people that are content!
BTW, I have something for you in my last post. I'd accidentally hit publish and when you were by earlier, I hadn't finished. Swing by and check it out!
What a semi-twisted article! I think it depends on the type of happiness. There are different styles and levels.
Hhhmmmm....I like being happy....it is much more fun than being sad....I don't know what they are thinking....
To everything there is a season.
If it's bad to be happy then I'm just bad to the core. The fact that Jesus took my place in dying on the cross, then rose victorious from the grave just make me happy from the inside out! If all else is falling apart around me this fact gives me deep down joy...........
well THEY are Wrong! this is a big fat lie. i know from personal experience and from being around others, that happy people are much healthier than sad people. so say God's word. A joyful heart is like good medicine, a broken spirit will make one sick. on this one we have to consider the source who wrote it. stay happy, hugs and love coming your way. and if you notice the smiley face is pretty the sad one is not.
It makes me sad to think a story like that could be true!
I read the Washington Post online (it's still my favorite newspaper) but didn't see that article. I'm kind of happy that I didn't.
Best,
Bonnie
This is one reason God has called his own out from among them ...they have no clue to what happiness is and how to obtain it and keep it.....
yes and I bet tax slave dollars paid for that "research"...those folks aren't worth their salt!
What do they know? No one ever died from over-happiness :-). Have a great day, Ginny. Blessings...Mary
Oh Heaven's I read about that and saw it on the news; really? how ridiculous! Must they psychoanalyze everything and all aspects of our lives? URGH!!!
Oh my....what next?!! Actually, I'd much rather be happy and taken aback when someone takes advantage of my 'good nature'....won't be the first or the last....Smiles are better.
What a bunch of morons.
LOL <<--->>:o)
see my happy face
I prefer to be happy, life is to short to be grumpy all the time.
Greetings,
Filip
I say, lets all prove them wrong. happy people are so much more fun to be around.i choose happiness.
I agree with Karin that it's all about contentment - and in being grateful. Joy runs deep and is always good for the soul!
Hope you have a blessed Easter weekend!
I agree with Ruth. I suffer from depression and I always try to find contentment in what I have...no matter how little. God has blessed me richly and I am grateful for each person and thing that have been, and are, in my life. I do see what you mean, though. For myself, happiness is not a feeling...but a way of life. I can choose to be miserable or happy. I make certain that in my happiness I don't overlook things that could harm me or others. In other words, I try to be realistic. Thank you very much for sharing. I saw your comment on another blog about the photos not loading well for you...I had the same issue earlier today, but thankfully it is cleared up now. I cleared my cache and it helped. Have a wonder filled Easter weekend. God bless you.
I'll take the joy of the Lord any day!
I agree with you: we have to open our mind and our heart to GOD!
Happy Easter to you!

I prefer to be happy [most days] life is a roller coaster, but with a little help from God and cheerful friends, things can get better. If you're surrounded by happy people, you tend to feel better and I believe in that laughter is the best medicine.
I agree with the above, that life is too short to go around being grumpy.
I'm gonna enjoy this life until it kills me! Ha. I don't care what the experts say. You do know what an expert is, don't you? It's a drip under pressure! Haha. ☺
Those that do these studies have to much time on their hands... OR it is keeping people in jobs to come up with some of the stuff they come up with. That's my opinion.
**SIGH** Everything is so analyzed these days... and it will be concluded one way today and another way next year.. lol. I think I'm not going by that..
Ditto what Ruth said!!
I've learned to take anything the Washington Post says with a grain of salt. I think this is a good illustration of why I think that way.
I needed your post today. I have not been too perk for a couple of days. I was not sad, just had pain in my back. It seems better today.
Lol...this really made me lath....and happy....uh ph. Happy EasterGinny.
Hmmmm... I'm going to have to think on this for awhile. Great food for thought. blessings ~ Tanna
Actually I loved this. There are times when too much cheerfulness (in others) just makes me want to throw things across the room, while a recognition that sometimes life is unfair and tough can make me feel better. I also think that having Happiness as our goal easily leads us astray because it's one of those that seem to move farther away the more we chase after it. While sometimes it comes fluttering by just as we've decided to accept a little sadness. Thanks for the reminder!
Interesting the spin that can be put on anything isn't it? I totally disagree with article, but it is not surprising in the world we live in today. Blessings!
Yow---not sure I agree with that report, but I do know that we cannot be happy all of the time... Even those of us who promote happiness have bad days at times.. That's just life!!!!
Love one rainbow--but when I can see TWO, I'm really happy...
Happy Easter.
Hugs,
Betsy
can we equate contentment and blessed?
And also Trust and Obey, to be happy in Jesus.
Well, I am no Pollyanna. I have some down days. But wallowing in them is not nearly as much fun as looking for blessings to be happy about and to enjoy. And there are so many!
