Full August Moon

Tonight is the full Sturgeon moon. So named by the Native Americans because this is the month that is good for sturgeon fishing. There were so many clouds! But there was a brief clearing.

Summer declines and roses have grown rare,
But cottage crofts are gay with hollyhocks,
And in old garden walks you breathe an air
Fragrant of pinks and August-smelling stocks.

—John Todhunter (1839-1916)

Oh how pretty, Ginny. Thank you for posting. It's been raining here in northern-most Indiana so no moon watching for us. That's why I'm so glad you posted these gorgeous pictures! Love, Andrea xoxo

Wow, beautiful moon shots. It was lightly cloudy here...it was like looking through thick smog or something. It did not look like fog from the ground, just a thin haze up in the atmosphere.

I think the ones with the Smoky stuff in front of it are pretty the others are so clear you can see all the craters on the moon

What amazing shots! I need to get myself a good camera again. I got lazy with just using a cell phone since they have improved so much - but they can't get shots like this!

Delightful photo capture of the Lady Moon.... Gorgeous...

Often, I like to see the moon, behind a lacy froth of clouds. It makes an even more beautiful sight, to me. ~smile~

And behind a soft veil of clouds, which softens the view of the moon, and makes it have a halo. ~smile~

We have had bright moon light, during the night for a couple of nights now. But on the Full Moon Night, we are to have the hurricane remnants so.... She won't be able to shine through those clouds, I fear.

But we have enjoyed her!!!!!!!!

What stunning photos of the moon! The cloud in the first photo kind of looks like mustache of the moon :-)
P.S. After my failed attempt to give Niko nose drops, my husband took over the duty. I could not be trusted lol.

I love it and thanks for the sturgeon information. I tried to take its picture too, it was just so gorgeous, but mine didn't come out.

Joe and I saw the moon shining over our little town yesterday morning as we were driving him to the train station very early in the morning. It was so beautiful it took our breath away.

Beautiful, we took a moon walk last night. The moon was lovely and the evening was too, low humidity and a perfect 70 degrees.
